Hard Rock Café Washington DC

Free admission

Like other Hard Rock Cafes around the world, the Washington DC branch of the megachain has plenty of rock ’n’ roll–themed memorabilia, along with regular live music performances. In an ode to their surroundings, however, this branch has a few localized decor features, with the words "Embassy of Rock" emblazoned on a mezzanine wall.

The basics

Established in 1990, this Hard Rock branch within walking distance of many of the capital's most important attractions—including the White House—is hard to miss. While many people visit solely to pick up a bit of souvenir swag from the on-site gift shop, the menu of massive burgers, chicken wings, steaks, and sweet desserts may entice you to stick around for a filling meal.

When to get there

The Hard Rock Cafe is open for dining daily from lunchtime until well into the evening. There's a 3-hour-long happy hour that will get you discounts on beer, wine, and well drinks on weekday afternoons, and live acoustic music every Tuesday. Note that the gift shop opens 2 hours before the restaurant does, making mornings a good time to visit if you just want to buy souvenirs.

The FBI Headquarters

Just across from the restaurant sits the J. Edgar Hoover FBI Building. While it's a working office, you can visit on a self-guided tour (if you're a US citizen or permanent resident). Just note that you'll need to arrange your tour with the help of your congressional representative at least four weeks before the date you want to visit.
