It’s impossible to grow up in Naples as I did without spending a lot of time exploring the Amalfi Coast. A short drive from Naples, the famous coast is an immaculate stretch of Mediterranean shoreline, with bijou villages perched on cliffsides nearly tumbling into the Tyrrhenian Sea. It's the crown jewel of the Campania region.
I recently returned to Positano to hike the Path of the Gods, a mountainous trail from Pianillo down the vineyard-decked cliffs to the sea. It was a glorious hike, capped off with swimming at near-empty Arienzo Beach and dinner on the cozy waterfront. Here is the best way to experience the coastline's dazzling beauty in just one day.

Since you have one day, wake up and head straight for one of the three main coastal villages: Positano, Amalfi, or Ravello. Some private tours visit all three and speed things up with private transportation—but these typically take most of the day. Others better suited to your schedule take leisurely hikes between Ravello, Amalfi, and hamlets nearby.
