You don’t have to attend an event at this indoor stadium to warrant a visit. Many visitors come to admire the spaceship-like facade and window-checkered ceiling as they explore the area’s other Olympic sites, like the Olympic Ring, Olympic Stadium, and Esplanade. To visit the stadium with a guide, consider taking a tour of Montjuic Mountain; these tours typically include a ride on the cable car (Telefèric de Montjuïc), as well as visits to Montjuic Castle, the Olympic Ring and Stadium, Palau Sant Jordi, the Museu Nacional d'Art de Catalunya, and the Magic Fountain. Guided tours are available on foot, as well as by bike or Segway.
Though easily reachable by public bus, hop-on hop-off bus, taxi, and even by foot (via the escalators accessed from Plaça Espanya), getting back from Palau Sant Jordi after a nighttime event can be a bit complicated. Be sure to develop your transportation plan in advance.
Visitors can see the outside of the stadium anytime, and opening times for the interior vary by event. The surrounding area is at its best around sunset, particularly for the stellar views from the top of Montjuic.
Sports fanatics certainly won’t want to miss a visit to the city’s Olympic facilities on Montjuic, including Palau Sant Jordi, but these aren’t the only worthwhile attractions. Soccer fans should book a tour of Camp Nou, home of FC Barcelona (one of the world’s best soccer teams). The city is also home to a few sports-centric museums: the Camp Nou Museum, Olympic and Sports Museum, and the Barcelona Motorcycle Museum.
