Vjetrenica Cave

Zavala, 88370

The basics

The cave system is dark and slippery in places, and it’s not something that you can safely brave alone. Instead, you'll need to join one of the hourly guided tours that will take you through a section of Vjetrenica’s subterranean halls and passageways. Many guided tours departing from Dubrovnik or Sarajevo include visits to the cave, often in conjunction with other area attractions such as Kravica Waterfall and the historic city of Mostar.

Exploring Mostar’s architecture

Vjetrenica Cave is often visited in conjunction with the city of Mostar, a settlement on the banks of the Neretva river and arguably one of the prettiest cities in this part of the country. Mostar’s pedestrianized old town is known for its interesting mix of pre-Ottoman, Ottoman, and Austro-Hungarian architecture, and its landmark Old Bridge is a protected UNESCO World Heritage Site.
