The basics

Museum highlights include sculptures by Venetian artist Augusto Felici and a miniature train that was once used to transport students from the palace to the school. There's also a collection of Indian turbans, an East Asia gallery, and a room dedicated to the works of Indian artist Raja Ravi Varma, considered the father of the nation's modern art movement.

The museum is a popular spot on day tours of Vadodara and is often visited in conjunction with the Laxmi Villas Palace, a short walk to the north.

Laxmi Vilas Palace

Just north of the Maharaja Fatehsingh Museum sits one of Vadodara's best-known sights: the Laxmi Villas Palace. Constructed in 1890 for the local Maharajas of Baroda in the Indo-Saracenic style, this massive palace has 170 rooms furnished with stained-glass windows, mosaic floors, and regal furnishings. There's also a sizeable collection of weaponry.
