The Basics

This vast burial ground helped earn Ibiza Town recognition as a UNESCO World Heritage site in 1999. Visitors can follow a path leading into the burial caverns in the side of the hill and tour a large museum containing various treasures unearthed from the burial sites. Some of the burial caves are open to the public, allowing visitors a closer look. Many guided tours of Ibiza Town, including bicycle and scooter tours, include a stop at this impressive archaeological site.

A Noble Cemetery

This corner of Ibiza served as a final resting place for nobles and wealthy Carthaginians from all corners of the empire. Archaeologists and historians believe this site was chosen to meet some specific burial requirements, one of which was a site free of poisonous creatures; you’ll find no snakes or scorpions on the island.
