The Tiki Village Cultural Centre is open during the day, offering guided tours with or without participation in the handicraft workshops. Watch live demonstrations of basket weaving, braiding, pareo dyeing, and more. And in the afternoon and evening, you can catch the center’s popular shows: Grass-skirted dancers perform during a lunchtime presentation, and fire dancers wow the crowd to the sound of ukuleles and drums in the evening performance. You also have the option to dine on authentic Tahitian cooking during both shows.
The Tiki Village Cultural Centre is on the island of Moorea, which can be reached by ferry or a 15-minute flight from Tahiti. The center is on the west coast of the island, and is accessible from the airport and landing jetties via the main road that circles the island. Book rental car reservations ahead of time, especially on the weekends.
The center is open every day, except for Sundays and Mondays. Evening shows take place on Tuesday, Wednesday, Friday, and Saturday during high season, and on Tuesdays and Fridays in the low season. Overall, the best time to visit is during the winter season (from May through October) when it’s less humid.
One of the workshops offered at the Tiki Village Cultural Centre is tifaifai. This colorful patchwork is sewn by hand with appliqué designs inspired by nature. The items are usually used as quilts, bedspreads, or wall decor, and are presented on special occasions. The art is a cultural tradition that is passed down from generation to generation.
