The museum is inside Cowasji Jehangir Hall at the southern end of the Fort business and arts district. With five floors of gallery and exhibition space, you can see the museum in a few hours but longer is recommended to fully explore. While sightseeing tours typically pass the museum building, some private tours visit inside the gallery. You can visit the museum with other nearby attractions such as the Gateway of India and the Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Vastu Sangrahalaya history museum.

How to get there

The museum sits on Mahatma Gandhi Road, opposite Wellington Fountain and the Shyama Prasad Mukherjee Chowk in southern Mumbai. Taxis, buses, and rickshaws are convenient though sometimes unreliable, but the easiest way to reach the gallery is by the Mumbai Metro—the nearest station, Churchgate, is about 15 minutes away on foot.

When to get there

The museum is open from Tuesday to Sunday from mid-morning to early evening on weekdays, and mid-morning to evening on weekends. Generally, it’s best to avoid Mumbai during the scorching summer and the Indian monsoon season from June through September. The best time to visit is from late October to February when the weather is cooler.
