The basics

With Old Town attractions all around it, the Regensburg Cathedral is easy to add to your sightseeing. The church is a common inclusion on city tours and day trips that pass through Regensburg from Munich. Besides seeing the cathedral's chapels and nave, visitors can visit the Treasury Museum to see art, relics, and jewelry. Unless on a church-led guided tour, you can explore the church independently within 15 minutes and the treasury in an extra 30.

How to get there

Like most places in Regensburg's historical center, walking is the simplest way to reach the cathedral. The city center is not large and is linked up by plenty of pedestrian streets. However, visitors can use the A bus, which runs through the middle of the old town and alights at the Domplatz bus stop.

When to get there

Opening hours for the Regensburg Cathedral change with the seasons, but entry to the public is available daily and only regularly closed on Sunday mornings for mass. The church’s treasury runs according to its own hours. Where possible, try to avoid going at midday, as this is when groups of tourists on day trips and some river cruises usually come through.

Abbeys and churches of Regensburg

While the Regensburg Cathedral is the most obvious place of worship in Regensburg, the city has other religious sites that are just as interesting. St. Emmeram's Abbey on the south side of the old town is a work of art with its over-the-top baroque interior, while the Church of the Holy Trinity has a bell tower that visitors can climb for city views.
