The basics

Bene Beach is a starting point for kayaking tours of the Dalmatian Coast. Rent a kayak on the beach and explore on your own, or join a guided tour of the coast. The surrounding Marjan Forest Park offers tennis courts, a soccer field, playgrounds, and plenty of trails for hiking and biking. The beach itself is well equipped with changing rooms, toilets, showers, and a bar and restaurant. Walk along the coast to find your own secluded beach spot.

Things to know before you go

  • Bene Beach is family-friendly, offering plenty of shade and outdoor fun.

  • The shoreline is rocky and uneven, so beach shoes are recommended.

  • Lifeguards are on duty during the summer months.

  • Beachside kiosks rent chairs and sunbeds, and bikes are available for rent in the northern entrance to the park.

  • A ramp and lift provide access to the sea for wheelchair users.

How to get there

Bene Beach is on the northeastern part of Marjan, the noticeable hill on the peninsula of Split. Cars are not allowed in Marjan Forest Park, so plan to park nearby and walk to the beach. You can also take bus 12 from Riva, which is allowed in the park, and will drop you off right in front of the beach.

When to get there

Less crowded than the main city beaches in Split, Bene Beach can still get busy in July and August. Arrive early in the day to secure a spot on the beach, or avoid the crowds in general by visiting in May, June, September or October. The beach is popular with locals, so avoid weekends if you can.

Hiking Marjan Hill

Just a short walk from old town Split, Marjan Forest Park is a protected natural area filled with fragrant pine forests, hiking paths, and scenic viewpoints. Trails wind through the forest, providing extraordinary views of the city and surrounding islands, and passing by medieval chapels and ancient cave dwellings.
