While the bridges’ roofs were destroyed back in the 18th century, the remains of the four 13th-century towers that once linked the bridges still stand. You can catch them from the grass-topped terrace of the nearby Vauban Dam (Barrage Vauban), which offers panoramic views of the surrounding La Petite France district. Or, embark on a boat cruise around the city’s canal ways and pass beneath the arches of the fabled bridges. The bridges are a popular stop on Strasbourg walking tours.

Lookout points over the Covered Bridges can get extremely crowded in peak season (July, August, and December), so be prepared to wait in line for your photo op. Avoid the crowds by viewing the bridges by boat.
The narrow lanes and cobblestones of La Petite France quarter can make access tricky in places for wheelchairs and strollers.
The Strasbourg Covered Bridges are located along the River Ill at the southwest entrance to the Grande-Île, close to the Vauban Dam. As the Grande-Île is pedestrianized, you’ll need to arrive on foot or by tram. It’s about a 10-minute walk from the central Kleber Square (Place Kléber) and Strasbourg Cathedral. You can also take trams B or F to the Alt Winmärik stop, a few minutes walk from the riverside.
The Covered Bridges are most picturesque in late spring and summer when colorful flower baskets adorn the railings. It’s worth strolling past at night to see the lit-up arches illuminate the water to dramatic effect. The best light for photos is often in the mid-morning or at sunset.
