Det slutade med att vi fick en personlig rundtur i Monserrat från Femi eftersom vi var de enda på resan den dagen! Femi var fantastisk och tog sig till tre toppar alla med fantastisk utsikt. Den ena var en plats där det inte fanns några andra turister så man kunde verkligen njuta av lugnet. Man kan säga att Femi älskade Monserrat och att han delade med sig av att han siktar på att bestiga varje topp med sin fru - jag tror att de för närvarande är på 170 ish av 208!

Mina tonårsdöttrar och jag bokade denna resa för vår sista dag på en 10-dagars resa till Spanien. Tyvärr kunde vi inte vandra i skogen nära Montserrat på grund av restriktioner för skogsbrand. Fermi hittade en alternativ vandring för oss längre norrut. Utan att berätta om vandringen eller fråga oss vår komfortnivå eller konditionsnivå tog han oss med på en mycket ansträngande vandring upp och ner för två berg. Det var extremt varmt. Medan vi hade vatten och mat var det inte tillräckligt för vandringens svårighetsgrad. Min äldre dotters knä gjorde ont på grund av att jag klättrade upp och ner för stenar; hon har ACL rekonstruktiv kirurgi på knät och måste vara försiktig. Efter resan började jag kräkas på grund av uttorkning. När jag väl kom tillbaka till USA blev jag inlagd på sjukhus för uttorkning. Detta var ett dåligt sätt att avsluta en fantastisk resa. Jag skulle inte rekommendera denna resa. Det var en mycket dålig upplevelse. Slutligen är Fermis engelska tvättkunskaper underordnade. Vi kunde inte förstå honom och han verkade inte förstå oss.

Dear Aimee, I am very sorry for the physical problems you describe, and I hope you are fully recovered. It is true it was a day of unusually high temperatures, which is why the authorities closed certain areas, such as the Montserrat mountain, where you had booked the hike. We informed you about this two days before, and you agreed to move the hike to where it was possible to do it, refusing to cancel it. It is true that the place where we went, Rasos de Peguera, had sections with quite a lot of stone and steep slopes, but as you could see from the urban area, Montserrat is also like that. Sorry if I misinterpret your possibilities, whenever there are teenagers, I tried to have a bit of action during the hike, and seing you walking with your hands in your pockets, I was convinced that you were also capable, and so it was, of facing the challenge. I proposed to climb a peak, and you accepted. For us, it was an effort to make a longer journey, and dedicate more hours, to guarantee you a 4 to 5-hour hike, which is what you had contracted. In Montserrat there are various hike offers, and the one you hired is one of the longest and most demanding in a single day. Of course I respect your opinion of our service, what I don't understand is the comment that the water and food I brought was insufficient. It is in the description of our service, that I carry a liter of water per person, you brought more drink, which you were consuming, along with the bottles that I brought you, I remember at the end of the hike, distributing the bottles to you and none of you had completely consumed it, and I also had many cherries left over. I hope you are completely recovered, and when you look at the images of the privileged place where you were, your memory will be happier. All the best!

Highlight of my Barcelona Trip!

This day trip was the highlight of my vacation! The hike took us to nearly half of the hermitages on the mountain and the views from each vantage point were absolutely incredible. Fermin was the best tour guide and did a great job explaining the history and geology of the area. Be sure to wear good hiking shoes and bring extra water. I will say that the hike was more strenuous than expected, but totally doable for anyone that hikes a few times a year.

Fermi and Ivan are great guides and began by showing us some areas of the monastery that we wouldn't have seen if we were on our own - don't miss the second side chapel from the front behind the glass doors on the north side! The weather was gorgeous and hot, but they brought plenty of water and a nice lunch that we ate in a shady park accompanied by a cello player near the Pablo Casals statue.

If you are looking for a real hiking experience, this a great tour. This was a fantastic hike of nearly 8 miles. We very briefly saw the monastery at Montserrat by choice, we opted not to wait in the line for the Black Madonna before taking the cable car up to the hiking trail. The hike took us along the mountain ridge to several shrines, both new and ancient. The hike also included two different peaks, including St. Jeroni, the highest peak in the mountain range, so although we took the cable car up, there was still a good amount of altitude gained while hiking. The terrain on the hike was easy to intermediate, but the length of the hike definitely makes it an intermediate difficulty overall. We did not take the cable car down, so be prepared for a long but beautiful trek down concrete stairs to get back down to the monastery. Fermi was an experienced and knowledgeable guide. He carried our lunches of bocadillos sandwiches, mandarins, and cookies, plus a liter of water for everyone. I recommend bringing along some extra water for yourself, as one liter isn't much for such a long hike.

Lifetime memories. Our guide was outstanding, he gave us options, ensured our safety and comfort, and guided us to incredible peaks and shrines. Fantastic lunch spot. If you want a brief visit to the Monastery and a full day of hiking I cannot recommend this highly enough.

We did this hiking tour with our family 2 teenage sons and it was amazing. Our guide, Fermin, was extremely knowledgeable about the history of the monastery and the surrounding area and knew the mountains like the back of his hand he climbs the areas regularly. We had a tour of the monastery, and then a great hike past ancient hermit caves and to the top of peaks that gave us panoramic views. We saw mountain goats on nearby ridges. Fermin matched the hike to our ability and gave us history and nature lessons as we walked. This hike was the highlight of our trip to Spain and well worth it!

Fermi was such a wonderful guide! He was so knowledgeable about the area. My boyfriend and I have never rock climbed before and had helped us see the most beautiful views! He made sure we avoided the crowd by visiting the black madonna first thing in the morning. Thanks, Trescant!
