Great Day!!! Mo is the Best!

We had a wonderful day with Mo. This day was planned as the highlight of our cruise tours and it did not disappoint. Everything was wonderful and individualized to our needs! Too many experiences to mention them all. The Culloden tour was particularly meaningful and Mo brought the historical battle to life for us. Definitely recommend highly.

Good comprehensive tour of area

We were fortunate to have good weather on the day of our tour and everything went smoothly. Our tour guide Roy was very knowledgeable about the areas and sites we visited and shared interesting stories along the way. Time was limited at each stop due to the tour covering so many sites, but I feel it was sufficient to accommodate touring and shopping. I enjoyed this tour very much and learned a lot of Scottish history. Was sorry not to get a glimpse of Nessie, though!

Do not believe the advertisement. It isnt Outlander!

I was so disappointed on this tour, first the disorganized queue for meeting points. We didn’t follow the order as advertised in the itinerary, and the microphone didn’t work half the time. But you advertise as an Outlander tour with only Colluden as the loan stop, and NO PLAN for lunch!!! We were starving, and To top it off we found we were not going to the Clava Cairns! For this price was outrageous! Then we go to Loch Ness there is no time for photo and the cows stop was useless. The tour is too spread out, and could be managed better. I feel it was no way justified for the price we paid today when compared to a tour by WowScotland who did go to Clava Cairns, had lunch, did the Cawdor castle, and paid half what I did. You need to do better, and I want a refund.

Natalie and Greg, It clearly states you DO NOT go to Clava cairns on this bus tour due to the weak bridge. It also clearly states in the email I send you upon booking that lunch is not included. It suggests you bring a packed lunch. There is no queue for the bus. You just all stand in a group which you did then the bus arrives and you wander over. I find it amazing what people will complain about that isn’t factual just to get a refund. Viator have refunded you but I’m challenging it as it’s extremely unfair. I paid for your two entry fees to the castle so at least you should pay that. There were several Outlander places such as Culloden battlefield, Inverness, Loch Ness too. Here is what we sent you about lunch: Lunch/Snack: We do not set aside a specific time or place for you to eat but there are cafes or takeaways at some of the venues we visit. However to save time you may wish to bring with you a packed lunch which you could eat on the vehicle during periods of travel over 30 minutes. Here is the list of places you saw: Culloden Viaduct (Pass By) After a half hour visit at Clava Cairns, we will pop around the corner to see the famous Culloden or Nairn viaduct, designed by Murdoch Paterson and opened as a railway crossing in 1898. Inverness Castle (Pass By) Journeying onwards through the city of Inverness we will pass the historic town hall and the Inverness Castle. My husband and I had a wonderful time with JUNE on this excursion. We loved seeing the the ancient stones, the very old aqueduct, and of course, Loch Ness. We felt like we had known JUNE for a long time. We even shared recipes and stories. We would definitely recommend this tour!

Good excursion, pleasant experience

Our Thistle Excursions guide, Mo, and our Thistle Excursions bus driver both did an excellent job. Mo, who has a background in teaching children, was gifted with the adults in her charge--anticipating their needs, addressing their educational interests, and managing to herd them through crowds without making them feel herded. We benefitted from having a driver who focused on driving and a guide who focused on us, and we appreciated that Mo wore a mic that made her easily heard throughout the bus. The bus itself was clean, comfortable, and not filled to the brim with passengers--a nice change from some of our cruise ship venues. I preferred this excursion to pricier ones in smaller vehicles in which the driver doubled as a guide and had to make himself heard by speaking loudly. In the far back corner of one of these vehicles, it's very hard to hear anything but the motor and, being physically able to climb into the back seat and fit there with two others, I was stuck back there for the duration of most of these excursions. Yes, I would choose the Viator-sponsored tour again!

A lovely day in the Scottish Highlands

Our tour guide Mo provided very interesting and relevant information about each of the sites we visited, enhancing our experience along the way. We were thrilled to see the beauty of the Scottish Highlands and Lock Ness in person. Culloden Battlefield and Clava Cairns both had a sense of history, presence, and peace. Cawdor Castle and its grounds were lovely. Overall, a day well spent.

This was the best tour of our whole trip! Perfect excursion if you are on a cruise ship and only have a short time at port. Very accommodating of times you need to be back to the ship. Great amount of time at each spot along the tour, very informative, fun and saw everything on our list for the day!

The Castle was great and We really enjoyed the tour of the castle. The drive out was amazing and Mo gave us so Much information and was very personable. Peter was a gracious and careful driver. Inverness was a cool city. Culloden field was very educational but rather sad.

While the tour was covering a lot of territory and was limited in time it provided enough time in each area to enjoy. Cawdor Castle was very interesting, I've never visited a castle before, and it was a great location with a long history and was very enjoyable. Culloden Battlefield was also very interesting. Not only with the Highlander connection but an historic battle in the history of the UK. And Loch Ness was beautiful, we even saw Nessie! But unfortunately, it was only a decoration in a playground. Maybe next time I'll see the real thing :). The tour staff was excellent, thank you Mo! And she was true to her word that we would be able to see Jamie without a shirt on!

Fun-filled day with lots to see and great information given. Gardens at Cawdor Castle was better than the inside of the castle. Wish there was more time at Inverness. It was also great to visit the farm where we could see the famous Scottish furry cows.

DO NOT WASTE YOUR MONEY!!!

Absolutely terrible experience, DO NOT WASTE YOUR MONEY WITH THEM!!! first we left late, then they smushed two different tours together since one apparently didn’t sell out enough. We get on the bus and are told by the tour guides “it’s not going to be like as described- take it up with the owners”. Then the bus is broken and you can’t even hear the tour guides telling you anything over the speakers on an educational bus tour. They didn’t take us to or tell us about several of the spots we were supposed to, and at Inverness which is a glorified shopping stop they stayed there for two hours when everyone wanted to go and see the historical locations we were promised. Then when we finally get on the road they tell us “we have to change Loch Ness to a quick photo stop because we have to make it to the distillery”. At no point was a distillery on the itinerary (we had a recovering alcoholic with us and wouldn’t have picked this tour). Then the road is closed to Loch Ness (which while not their fault sucked) so they take us to a distillery for ANOTHER shopping stop that we didn’t want. The entire trip is shopping and nothing else which is the opposite of what they advertise. When we reached out to the company to ask for a partial refund we were met with a very combatant attitude saying “what we described wasn’t their tour”. To which we said yes, that’s exactly the problem we didn’t do what we booked and paid a lot of money to do. After much back and forth we were told we would get a 30% refund to which they proceeded to completely disregard us and never actually send the refund. When I tried to go through my credit card company to request the refund they lied to them and told them they had given me a refund (no they did not). Absolutely ridiculous. Do NOT trust this company with your money it is not worth it.

Laura Your tour was long ago. We had issues with it due to a road closure at Loch Ness. Other than that I recognise nothing in what you say. You had a big group of which you were asking for a full refund when you saw a beautiful castle and didn’t go off track until mid afternoon with only 2 hours remaining. As you know we threw the distillery visit in as we found t get to Loch Ness due to the accident. As for the recovering alcoholic I do know there’s copious amounts of alcohol available on tour cruise so I’m sure he or she is more than capable of saying no. You didn’t do a distillery tour or tasting it was just a visit. Most people loved it. We did authorise 30% refund to Viator but you weren’t happy so went to tour credit card company demanding 100%. We are sorry you felt this way. We’ve been courteous all the way through this. You’ve been the aggressor and I think this comes over in your review. I hope you enjoyed the rest of your cruise and didn’t go home too disappointed after you felt let down by a road closure. Becky the guide did her best for you in the circumstances.
