Vi bokade denna turné kvällen innan eftersom vi var oroliga över vädret, och Viator gjorde ingen besviken. Vi hade en fantastisk tid med Tim vår reseförare som var mycket kunnig om historien om de platser vi besökte. Han förklarade resplanen och såg till att vi fick tillbringa gott om tid på varje destination, samtidigt som vi tog oss till Salzburg före solnedgången så att vi kunde njuta av utsikten. Vi gillade särskilt Hallstatt och skulle stanna längre eller till och med stanna minst 2 dagar om vi hade mer semester. Vi rekommenderar starkt denna resplan.

Smoke-filled car that gets you late to Salzburg and gives you little time there

The tour does NOT provide what it says. Find a different Tour if you are thinking of going to Salzburg. • The tour car stinks of cigarette smoke. The driver smokes—near and in the car. This tour was private--just my wife and I. When we came back early from a quick break, the driver was sitting in the car smoking. He also several times smoked directly next to the car, with cigarette smoke wafting into the car. The car stank of cigarette smoke. If you like 12 hours of cigarette smell in a car, you will like the drive. • The tour promises to take you to Melk, but it never does. The tour advertises "see Melk". That never happens. Our “tour” of Melk consisted of the following: as we were driving down the highway at 130 kph, the driver waved to his right and said “over there is a very old monastery.” Later in the trip, when I asked the driver when were we going to tour Melk, he said “you already did—that monastery is in Melk.” It is false advertising to promise a tour of an area, take money for that tour, then never take the client to that area. • The tour promises three hours in Salzburg, but that doesn’t happen. Instead, you will get maybe two hours total in Salzburg, maybe less. • The tour promises two hours of guided touring in Salzburg, but that doesn’t happen. You will be lucky if you get a full hour of the guide—they will say that you “arrived late in Salzburg” and “your guide unexpectedly has another commitment, so we cannot do a full two hour tour with you.” • You won’t know how long you will be in Salzburg, nor if you will get a guided tour, until you actually arrive in Salzburg and they then inform you that your time in Salzburg has been shortened. They will lead you on to believe that you will have your full three hours in Salzburg, but when you get there, there will be “an unexpected development” and you will get maybe a one hour rushed tour of Salzburg. When you bring all of this to the attention of the driver, he will say "I can't do anything about it." When, after your long and disappointing day, you bring this to the attention of Randon Travels and Viator, they will tell you "it was busy season and nothing we can do." We did 10 Viator tours on our recent trip to Europe; 9 of them were excellent, and I have posted reviews so stating. This one was unacceptably poor. Instead of just admitting that they had a bad day and at least refunding the tour guide portion of this Tour for which they charged $500 (of the $1,200+ for the this trip), they said "nothing we can do." Find a different Tour if you are going from Vienna to Salzburg.

Dear Clifford Setthness, we expected this unfair review from the start as soon as we refused your refund which you were trying to get from the start of the tour. We would just like like to clarify few things: - stop in Melk was never skipped, we can skip it only on clients request, but he even added Schloss Ort to your schedule which is a very popular destination and other stops on the way - all our cars are non smoking and drivers are strictly not allowed to smoke in cars, its in their personal contract - you messaged our driver a night before the pick up that you wanted to be picked up at 8.30am/ which in high season causes lots of time changes/ - you arrived to Hallstatt at 12.10am and our driver told you that you will have a guided tour of Salzburg starting at 2.30pm and you need to have the most of 1hr in Hallstatt, but you arrived 40minutes late as you were in a restaurant which has caused that you arrived to Salzburg at 3.30pm - it is the high season and when you change schedules it is hard to fit and extend guided tours as our guides have other clients and especially in a high season it is not possible to extend the guided part of the tour, just for your information the price of a 2hour guided tour in Salzburg is 150eur, not 500 - your driver was Peter who is one of our most popular drivers/he actually got 2 top ratings after your review on other similar within a week We hope that Viator will sort you out or at least other providers will be carefull with your future tours Mr. Clifford Setthness

Marian has been a very pleasant driver. She has always made sure that we are at ease and that we make the most of our time. He also gave us tips for the rest of the days. Highly recommended and of course, Hallstatt and Salzburg are worth the trip.

Driver peter was very nice and knowledgeable. We didn’t not hire a tour guide which was costing anoter 140 dollars. Wish we had time to spend on the beautiful lakes on the way.

Horrible service and a rip off!!!!! I have booked a total of 7 tours with Viator this year and this one was the worst we have ever had. The tour has great potential and the scenery is amazing, but the Tour Supplier needs to be changed if Viator does not want to loose costumers. We did not take the tour option because I considered to be expensive. That was the mistake! THIS IS NOT A PRIVATE TOUR! it is just a taxi service, but not even that. Upon our departure, I informed the driver that I wanted to spend more time in Salzburg since it was stated under the tour highlights. Peter, our driver, asked me if I had the tour option included so my answer was not. So, we spent more time in Hallstatt than needed, later to learn our driver usually has lunch with this buddies here. We only spent less than an hour in Salzburg. We didn't have time to visit Mozart's house and he didn't even told us about it. In other words, if you pay extra for the tour then you will have time to enjoy Salzburg. I have complained to Viator, but the tour supplier Randon Travel assures Peter is his best driver even though, I have provided actual evidence with times stated, I have been ignored. I am still fighting this case and seeking reimbursement. Be careful!!!

TOUR OPERATOR COMMENT: Please note, we informed the client in advance that the option chosen at checkout was a "driver only" option and if they wanted to have a guide they could have had to book the "fully guided option" or we could have given them a guide for Salzburg for an extra charge. All clients can modify the itinerary to suit their needs, but cannot add additional locations to it that are away from the original route (extra kilometers away) and so on. This review mentions that they only had less than an hour in Salzburg. However, as per our itinerary, they arrived after 2.00pm and left at 5.00pm. This is also the same time frame where we offer a guided tour of Salzburg with a local guide if that option has been chosen upon booking. This option was offered to these clients but they declined as they stated they felt the cost for the guide's time and expertise was 'too expensive.' Our guide would have been able to show them places of interest, such as Sound of Music, Mozart's house etc, but as they had selected the "driver only" option, they simply had free time to explore at their discretion instead. The driver on this tour was Peter who is always pleasant, kind, and amenable to stopping at any place the client's wish. He is one of our best drivers as mentioned in other Viator reviews and does this tour many times a week. We are sorry to hear this client had such an unfavorable experience, but we hope they were still able to enjoy their overall time in Austria.

An amazing tour....Hallstatt has breathtaking scenery! Should be on everyone 's bucket list and things to do in Austria. Salzburg also has its own charm and managed to visit some of the places from Sound of Music. Last but not least, want to thank our driver, Peter. He was really nice and helpful!! Thanks, Erica

I had the pleasure of going on another Viator trip to Budapest and with another free day decided to take a trip West towards Salzburg! I can't say enough things about the breathtaking views, the unique tour provided based on the things I wanted to see, the excellent driving provided by Peter and the over the top tour provided by Michaela once I arrived in Salzburg. The mountains of Hallstatt are things you only dream about or see in pictures, and they are brought to life as you walk the lakes edge. This was a day packed full of amazing things and more adventure than I could have ever expected, it was totally worth it and I look forward to another adventure with them soon!

It was a cold and rainy day. We could not walked outdoors too much. However, the Melk Abbey would have been a great place to walk outside. Hallstatt was a beautiful little town. Good choice of the places along the route from Vienna to Salzburg.

Our driver was very flexible and when we told him that my father was having trouble walking that day, he offered to change the itinerary and we took a tour of Melk, Hallstatt and the surrounding lake country instead. It was awesome!
