Rocco and Carla were excellent hosts. We’ve been making pasta at home for the last two years but could never quite get the dough right. Carla gave us tips as a former chef that we’ll be able to use for years to come!

The Experience Did Not Meet The Expectations of the Participants

The main issue was that we were not engaged in the actual cooking process. She prepared the bland sauces and cooked the pasta without engaging us. We also felt that they were annoyed that we were there and intruding in their personal space as the event was in their home. The Viator ratings do not match our experience at all. The pictures shown seemed like a completely different environment and food pictures so much better than our food. Felt like they wanted us leave.

Your review surprises us, we respect all opinions but this time we just don't understand. We were kind right from the start, we reassured you despite your 45 minute delay, we welcomed you into our home in the kitchen where you followed the cooking step by step. We talked about our family, your job, your well-deserved pension and many other things as we always do. Finally you also met our son and played with him. We accompanied you halfway and greeted you warmly. You even left us a tip. It may be that one of our speeches has been misinterpreted (difficult because our speeches in Italian mainly concern our son, whether he has eaten, slept or what he is doing downstairs), we will never dream of speaking badly about our guests, on the contrary we think as long as it's lucky to have people from all over the world. As for the other reviews, they are reviews of our guests to whom we offered the same service, the photos are also of our guests, we do not publish photos by choice (many delegate the work to a professional photographer who can disguise reality) we do not I want this, but we're sure you've seen photos of other experiences online. We remain at your disposal for any clarification.

Favorite experience in Praiano!

Carla and Rocco were an exceptional couple to be around. They were both welcoming, fun, and so very kind. They had such a fun personality. Carla had all of us laughing the whole time we were learning about the different kinds of pasta. It was truly an honor to learn the recipes of their generations. 5/5, 10/10. They deserve all of the praise.

Needing Improvement

Whilst the hosts were wonderful, for the price per head we expected more than a kids sized portion of pasta. It would cost the hosts 3€ max to increase the portion sizes so that their customers don’t have to buy a meal after their cooking class. Other classes will often have more than 1 main course, whilst this class only has 1 very simple dish which you don’t even get to see being cooked (the pasta is cooked in a different room) or what sauce/pesto is being used to make it, making you question what have you really learnt. I hope the hosts take this inexpensive advice as I do believe the course was a genuine cooking experience. Only with these changes I would recommend this class. All the best to the hosts.

Hi Kayne, Thank you for your opinion. In your case you have chosen the 2 pasta + dessert option, usually the portions are 100-120 grams per pasta shape (on this we can't go wrong because we calculate 100g of flour and 1 egg per person + more flour during the kneading), therefore 2 shapes were 200-240 grams per person, moreover you have to consider that fresh pasta is much heavier than dried pasta purchased in packs, all our guests always leave us full, sorry that we don't it was the same with you, but you could have warned us immediately, we would have prepared another dough. We also made dessert, we offered you liqueur, wine is unlimited and we started with a full-bodied appetizer. About the price, as I often tell our guests, those who book directly with us receive a better price because they save commissions from booking platforms.

A wonderfully cultural experience

We had such a lovely time with Karla and her family in their home. She was a gracious host and excellent cooking instructor. We made homemade pasta, stuffed eggplant and Tiramisu. It all tasted amazing and the whole experience was one we will never forget. Thank you Karla and Rocco for the perfect Italian excursion.

Don’t do this class. We didn’t feel like they even wanted us there to begin with. Weren’t very welcoming. And then seemed surprised we had 7 people instead of 6. I also had emailed immediately after we booked to see if 7 people were okay and he said yes, no problem. I will give 1 star because Carla was extremely careful with my daughter in law who can’t eat gluten. I give her credit for that. When it was time to leave, Rocco said there was a problem with the payment and it didn’t go through, which was a LIE - I had email confirmation which I showed to him. He proceeded to say it was canceled and he needed me to pay him in cash or pay pal. That it wasn’t his fault. Then I see it was canceled, but he canceled it! So my money is being refunded from Viator because he canceled! SCAM! And the food was very average. So do not do this!!

We are in fact known for our being excellent hosts, simple, genuine and honest, as evidenced by the many reviews. Why did we have to behave differently with you? Your review surprises us. Probably the review is skewed for the "problem" with VIATOR. About which we sent you a message before via WhatsApp. This is the message viator sent to us: Hello, The credit card holder has disputed the charge for the below booking through their bank, claiming that it was fraudulent. Please do not accept the voucher. If the customer contacts you directly and has any concerns please direct them back to Viator. We apologize for the inconvenience caused. Kind regards, ...Viator Chargeback Response Team... Our experience is open to a maximum of six people, this information is present everywhere but we were happy to host seven people. We have organized a different menu for a celiac person with pride. Regarding the payment method, we give several alternatives, you have chosen PayPal, you have received a discount for the inconvenience and you have rewarded us with a tip. In addition you have also saved Viator commissions. You may not like food, but it is a cooking lesson not a restaurant, we offer our recipes prepared by our guests with our ingredients. So the food didn't like it, but the cooking class? We would have liked to have had some considerations also regarding the wine and liqueur but it seems clear to us that this review is mainly focused on a not ours mistake. Fun family experience!

We had a great time with Rocco & Carla. They are a lovely couple who graciously shared their authentic traditions with us. Everything was perfect! We had a vegetarian & a person that doesn’t eat pork in our group & they accommodated us nicely. It was a beautiful evening under the olive trees. I am excited to try a few of their recipes at home too.

Rocco & Carla are very passionate about teaching their knowledge of authentic Italian cooking and it shows! They make sure that everyone has a great time and we learned many great recipes and techniques, but also a little about Rocco & Carla and their family. The setting for the class is very quaint and charming with breathtaking views of the Amalfi Coastline. Overall, a truly unique and wonderful experience.

I was beginning to think I was going crazy that I wasn’t that impressed with the food on the Amalfi coast- yes, it’s been tasty but no better than I could get in NYC and every restaurant has the same 4-5 pastas, a few pizzas and a fish or two….Then we did a private cooking class with @amalficoast_be_experience ! Carla and Rocco welcomed us into their home, taught us how to make fresh roasted peppers and artichokes and pasta the real way! All vegetables from their gardens, homemade wine and liqueur (for me), and desserts which we got to eat on their porch overlooking the sea. It was the food I have been looking for in restaurants and now we know how to make it at home too! Carla and Rocco were so great with my 11 year old daughter, it was an experience she will always remember, as will I. The Amalfi coast has become so touristy- if you want to experience the real Amalfi, you must make Praiano and Rocco/Carla’s home a stop on your trip.

Very unique experience. The couple welcomed us to their home and we were able to get a truly local experience through homemade family recipes and wine/produce grown on the property. It was fun, we learned a lot about the area, and food, and had a great meal.

Rocco & Carla are amazing! The only place for a true farm to table experience on the Amalfi Coast. The class was a great learning experience, the view was breathtaking, and a truly unique experience you can’t get anywhere else. 10/10.
