What To Expect

Your half-day tour of Atlanta’s most characterful neighborhoods and historic houses begins with pickup directly from your Downtown hotel. Meet your driver, hop aboard your vehicle, and head to the first stop, where you’ll connect with your guide and fellow attendees. With only a small group for company, you’re ensured a personal way to explore.

This tour—ideal for architecture and history lovers—covers a side of Atlanta that few visitors get to see. Begin in the leafy Buckhead neighborhood and go for a tour of the Governor’s Mansion, one of the city’s most notable landmarks.

Next, stop at the Swan House—a striking 1928 mansion—and enjoy lunch at the Swan Coach House (own expense). Afterwards, continue to Rhodes Hall, the Midtown Historic District, and other must-see Atlanta historical homes.

Finally, your tour ends in the afternoon at your original departure point, giving you plenty of time to continue your Atlanta sightseeing.

We were scheduled for a pick-up time...
Sara_K, Jul 2018
We were scheduled for a pick-up time of 10:15-10:30, but our driver didn't come to the hotel until close to 10:45. Then he got lost on the way to the Atlanta History Center, and we turned around in multiple people's driveways trying to get there. When we got finally got there, we were dropped off and told that the guide was coming, and she didn't arrive for 30 minutes where we were just standing there. We then learned that the Smith Family Farm is an exhibit at the center and not something you actually travel to see, and the Swan House is also right on the property - all included if you just bought an entrance to the History Center. We also didn't know that there was a lunch that you would go to on the tour since it's not listed on this site, and although it was good food, we were hoping to spend 4 hours learning history - not an hour walking around and 90 minutes eating. After we had lunch, we were supposed to be picked up by our original driver and taken to the Margaret Mitchell House and around Buckhead, but he didn't show up. We had to uber to our hotel or wait 45 minutes for him to arrive. We were told we would get a refund, but only actually got 50 refunded. I enjoyed the sites, but would've been MUCH better off just going to the History Center myself and walking around. Waste of time and money. Very frustrating.

Shelly is great, sweet guide. We had terrible weather. But if a bummer. Margaret Mitchell house is very interesting, worth the visit. Swan house, wasn't guided... wish it was. The museum was really just visiting the farm, and farm life No tine inside actual museum. You need to book it on your own.

A good tour to take if you only have a 1/2 day and want to see some of the historical sights in Atlanta. It definitely will give you a good taste of Atlanta's history. Our tour guide was great, efficient and helpful. I would book a similar tour elsewhere again. Thank you.

To tell the truth, the historical...
Christopher M, Mar 2017
To tell the truth, the historical homes tour wasn't a tour at all. It was a self-guided tour of the history museum which included two of the homes and then a separate drive to the Margaret Mitchell residence. The description led me to believe that this was a guided tour emphasis on guided of three distinctive homes of southern roots. But the tour was merely a drive service to the history museum and the Margaret Mitchell house. There was no guided, it was self-guided. This tour was definitely not worth the money we paid, in actual it was double the price if we would have just done the exhibits separately. I am extremely disappointed because I have used Viator before and had great experiences, this was not one of those times.

We saw the Margaret Mitchell home and we were able to tour the Swan House on this tour. Since we didn't have a car, it was helpful to be able to do the tour. The only negative was they changed drivers for the return trip from the Swan House and she was late so we thought she forgot to pick us up.
