The Most Authentic Hungarian Tasting

We ended up being the only couple on the tour. Agnes did a fantastic job of showing us around the food scene in Budapest as well as some of the historical sites along the way. She was very nice, made sure all our expectations were met, and did a very good job of explaining the evolution of the culinary scene. Agnes was very communicative before the tour with expectations and meeting times/places. She even offered that we message her after our tour with any questions or recommendations.

Bea At Your Best in Hungary!

This tour was perfect. Just what we were looking for. Bea met us at our hotel and took us to a restaurant we would never have found for some traditional dishes. Then we explored the food market where Bea explained Hungarian wines, sausages, vegetables, and paprikas. It was very interesting and informative. At other spots we tasted delicious sausage, then funnel cake. Along the way, Bea pointed out interesting buildings and their history. Bea was fun, entertaining, and knowledgeable. We could have hung out with her all day!

Don’t waste your $400

I thought this would be an amazing introduction to Budapest food and culture. Our guide was sweet and gave information about the history. I honestly have never been on a food tour so I did not know what to expect. However I paid close to $400 for two people and this was not even close to what was described. We wondered around the market got information on history, had a small board of 4 cold cuts, Togo bag of cookies and savory biscuits, a bowl of goulash and something else one glass of wine and then 5 pieces of cake. It was plenty of food but not very diverse no wine pairing, I felt like I had to ask permission for drinks etc. it would also be best to not pair a guide with severe food restrictions such as a vegan with a meat eater! Thank you

Our guide, Anna, was very knowledgeable about Budapest's food scene and its hidden gems. She was a very nice and kind person. We tasted some delicious food, and everything was more delicious than what we tried later on our own. Highly recommend this tour!

A great tour for a first time visitor. Tiberiu really took the time to listen and personalize the tour. he had some great hidden gems that had amazing food. we ate family style and saw a ruin bar.

We love to take food tours but this one was very disappointing. The guide was late and told us to just go downstairs to the grocery store in the food hall and buy some water for ourselves (would have been nice to know this beforehand or have them provide water). The food tour was going around the food hall gathering food. Then we found a bench to sit down while she broke out the food. The amounts were very skimpy and don't think it was 10 samples (e.g. 1/2 Cracker with about 1/4 teaspoon of jam and 1/4 teaspoon of cheese was 2 tastings). We then proceeded to the tram station where she told us to buy tram tickets for ourselves. Seems like for the price we paid, this should have been included. We took the tram for a few stops and then stopped in a store that offered free drink samples and were encouraged to buy stuff from the store (we didn't). Told us as a special treat she was taking us inside of the Opera house. Just went into the lobby but could have done that on our own. Overall, not worth it and wouldn't recommend this tour.

We had such a wonderful time with Gabriel. My husband is a chef and Gabriel customized our experience to include our interests. We sampled many local dishes, learning so much about Hungarian cuisine and culture. I would highly recommend this tour with Gabriel.

Our guide was personable and knowledgeable, but by no fault of hers, resulted in a terrible experience. We had been in Budapest for 2 days before this tour, and had been to the Central Market. What was not expected was depicted in our attached photos. Eight of the 10 tastings were in the Market. Our sampling took place on a "bench!" This was far from a personalized culturally immersive experience. We have completed numerous food tours over the past years, and this one was the lowest rated. Rather than walking and supporting local business owners where we coul have had appetizers, drinks, and various sampling of culturally enriched Hungarian food in an environment that made the experience less significant. This is a poorly planned "food tour" that one can do on their own and save them the cost of a tour that was far from the value delivered. My wife and I had a far better culturally immersive gastronomy experience by picking recommended local establishments, going in having a drink with some appetizers among 6 different locations. We will not recommend this specific tour to our clients or friends.

Nick was easy to talk with which made it even more enjoyable. Would 100% recommend! We had our three boys (ages 7-16) and they loved it as well!

We had such a terrific time on our tour with Andras. He has a great personality and hit if off with my 80+ parents. Our family has a Hungarian background so many dishes tasted were “just like grandma used to make”. He really went out of his way for us. My mom was looking for a particular jam and torte, he said his mom makes a better jam and brought a jar to our hotel the next day along with the tortes we couldn’t find on tour. Talk about above and beyond! Andras is not only a great human being but an excellent tour guide.

My husband and I really enjoyed this private tour. We had Gabor as our guide and he was very knowledgeable of the history, architecture, neighborhoods, culture and cuisine! At the beginning of the tour, Gabor asked us what we were most interested in learning and if there was anything specific we really wanted to try. He catered the tour towards our interests. We started in the central market, tasting local air dried meats, pastries, jams, honey, and palinka. From there we moved to the upstairs stalls and tried traditional fresh baked sausages, pickled vegetables, and stuffed cabbage roll. We walked through different neighborhoods learning about the history and made several more stops along the way trying goulash, a seasonal green bean stew, a wine, two more local liqueurs and last but not least a fresh hot chimney cake! All were very delicious. Gabor gave us many more recommendations of restaurants and bars to try. We had a wonderful time and recommend this for anyone wanting to learn more about the culture and history through traditional foods! Come hungry! You will eat A LOT!
