What To Expect

The town of Etyek is a relatively young wine region that began production 200 years ago when German settlers first planted vines. Your wine tasting excursion will begin with pickup at your hotel in the central districts of Budapest, followed by a 30-minute drive to the Etyek-Buda wine region.

Amid a hilly backdrop colored by vines, you’ll learn about the region’s notable white varieties, commonly grown from sauvignon blanc and pinot gris grapes. You’ll also have the chance to try Etyek’s famous Törley, a sparkling wine specific to the region. Afterward you’ll travel to Old Wine Hill to hear more about the local soils and acidities as you take in the view of the grape presses, vineyards and villages below. Along with beautiful landscape, Old Wine Hill comprises almost 1,000 wine cellars along its slopes, most no longer in use.

The morning tour option includes 2 cellar visits and the longer afternoon tour incorporates 3. You will be offered four wines from each family-run winery you visit, along with Hungarian snacks. This intimate experience gives you an insider’s peek into the secrets behind each wine as you discuss with your host, typically both the owner and the winemaker, the process behind each glass that you sip. You’ll leave not only with a delicious sampling of the area’s finest but also a closer understanding of the traditions and culture of Etyek’s wine country.

Your final stop will include a traditional 2-course meal at a wine estate. You are welcome to enjoy some additional wines at your own expense while you sample authentic Hungarian dishes. For a sample menu, please see the Itinerary below. Your guides will drive you back to your hotel in Budapest after your meal.
Sample Menu: First course: • Roasted duck leg served with green vegetablesDessert: • Chocolate mousse

We really enjoyed our tour as the guide was very easy going and informative. We visited two wineries and enjoyed learning about the type of wines in Hungary and how the wineries struggled over the years. The lunch was a traditional Hungarian meal and delicious. Very well done tour

Great time. Peter and Adam were great guides. The small vineyards were good intro to Hungarian wines. Small group made team building easy. Don’t miss this tour.
Great Tour…. Below average guide

The wineries were interesting and the wine was very good. One of the wineries served us a wonderful home cooked Hungarian meal. Nobody tried to sell you wine as all these wineries were small production and family wineries. The only negative( and a big one) was our guide Michael. He was disinterested in us or what he was doing… totally was going through the motions and seemed like he did not want to be there with us. Maybe he was having a bad day… but in the service business… your attitude makes the experience.
A very enjoyable and informative experience

Very interesting talks by vineyard owners together with wine tasting and lunch. Excellent guide who made the journey to the vineyards and back both informative and enjoyable. A really good half day

Peter was an outstanding guide! His knowledge of the Hungarian wine culture was superb. The experience was one of the best we had sailing along the Danube. Speaking with the owners of the vineyards while trying their wines was such a meaningful and cultural experience that is impossible to re-create. The tour was on-time, well-organized and reasonably priced.
Highly recommend

We had the best afternoon on this tour! From pick-up to drop-off everything was perfect. We went to three wineries (very close to each other), tasted wonderful Hungarian wines and had a great rustic dinner prepared by one of the owners plus met others from different parts of the world. Highly recommend!

Wine Lovers Tour
Brenda_P, Apr 2024
Great trip out, visited a variety of small vine yards. Got mini tours, talk to owners and of course taste the wines. At least six different wines to taste at each vine yard. Fascinating to learn about the Hungarian wines and the history. Lovely meal in the evening and of course with more wine tasting. Our driver was entertaining and knowledgeable about the region. We were drop at our hotels in Budapest, along with a commentary about the city sights at night. I don't like crowds and been in a small group was perfect.
