What To Expect

Immerse yourself in South African wine culture and enjoy a day of tastings, without having to worry about driving, with this hop-on hop-off wine tram in Franschhoek and round-trip transfers from Cape Town.

Meet at one of several convenient collection points in Cape Town and depart on a comfortable coach to Franschhoek. Admire the scenery, listen to wine commentary, and stay connected with complimentary Wi-Fi along the way.

At Groot Drakenstein Tram station, pick up your tram tickets. Choose which wineries you want to visit, and board the corresponding tram or bus. You’ll enjoy one tasting glass of wine on the tram.

Disembark at your choice of wineries for tours, tastings, and food (all own expense). Visit as many wineries as you’d like and spend as much time as you want during operating hours. At the end of your tour, board your coach to return back to Cape Town.

Nice but long day

Personally leaving by at 9.30 not 8.30 and 4 estates would if suited me better and a little diagram much Like a London tube map but really simple would of helped understand the route but a lovely day out with great wine and food.

Totally disappointed with City Sightseeing Your South Africa

So far this is the only bad tour experience that I had in South Africa. The tour agency people is not helpful at all.. I selected a meeting point for pick up and I reached there 15 mins early as agreed time. However, I waited for 30 mins and no bus comes to pick up , the tour agency didn’t contact me and ask where am I at least? But until I contacted them.. their answer was the bus left and you need to go to another pick up point. And when I reached another pick up point, the city sightseeing counter staffs told me that the bus has left. I was wondering they they asked me go to the next pick up point and the bus had left for a second time? After much reasoning with the staff, the staff just said “sorry sir cannot be refunded as per policy” and if you want to complain or request for a refund .. contact Viator and not them. Poor service

Wonderful day out and about in the wine estates of Franschhoek and Stellenbosch! The wine tram was a fun ride and also a novelty to get to/from the locations. Staff were friendly, especially on the tram BUS :)

Not to be missed

Very, very well run. Everyone knows their job. We stopped at 5 wineries and one we had lunch at. The Camberley winery is not be missed. The owner will sit with you and tell you about the wine as you sample. Don’t miss this one.

Highs and Lows of the Franschhoek Hop On Hop Off Wine Tram Tour

The trip was somewhat disappointing as the tram only stops at 3 wine farms especially in terms of timing, but the bus trip worked better as we were able to visit more wine farms than on the tram. We also did not get the choice of transport as we only found out when getting to Franschhoek that our trip would be on the bus first. Nonetheless, the bus worked better and was enjoyable. Then, we were disgusted to have received normal cooking oil and red wine vinegar when ordering the bread, olive oil and balsamic platter at the Bartinney Wine estate. It specifically stated olive oil and balsamic vinegar on the menu. When confronting the floor manager, she blamed the products on the supplier. No, sorry lady, your kitchen staff should know the difference between oils and vinegars as it does not take a rocket scientist to figure that one out. They did however, not charge us for the platter.

Great experience - the bus ride to the wineries was air conditioned and comfortable but after about 3 wineries i was done lol - so i exercised my option to Uber back to town

Do not plan to get to every stop! The wineries were excellent and we had a very fun day of wine tasting. It was a bit nerve racking that we didn't see a sign for the red coach, and thought we had missed the bus to the wine tram tour.

I appreciated the transfers from Cape Town and back, but I didn’t find the tram/bus particularly impressive. The people were lovely but it wasn’t a very picturesque route, and the wineries weren’t my favorite. I would give the tram another chance on a different line maybe. All in all it was fun but not memorable.

A beautiful day out

The wine tram is an absolutely perfect way to visit multiple vineyards in one day, with absolutely stunning views everywhere you go, the vineyards my partner and I visited were lovely with very reasonably priced wine tasting options, the tour guide on the coach to get us to Franschhoek and all other tour guides we encountered throughout the day were extremely knowledgeable and friendly and all in all we had a fabulous day. They even take any wine bottles you buy, back to the main platform to save you carting them around all day which is lovely. My reason for knocking off a star is that my partner and I are here in Cape Town on a potentially once in a lifetime trip, from the UK. We planned our day very carefully choosing the vineyards we liked the look of, knowing we were limited to 4/5 depending how long we spent at each one. However our carefully planned itinerary was ruined when we were, by no fault of our own, too late to catch the first tram by around 20 minutes, which ate into our first planned vineyard visit and ultimately meant we had to visit one less vineyard that we had planned, which is highly disappointing considering there’s a chance we will never get to do this again.
