Pick-up from hotels, guesthouses, backpackers, vacation rentals, AirBnB's and any other points within Cape Town city centre. Please specify your pickup address. We can inform you if it is possible. Please note that the timeslot selected is an estimated time for when the Shark Cage Diving boat will launch. Pickup time will be earlier to allow enough travel time from Cape Town to arrive for pre-trip briefing at the Great White House in Gansbaai. These are only estimated times and exact times can only be confirmed a day prior, after a detailed weather and tide check. Please allow a full day in your itinerary for this activity.

What To Expect

This exciting shark experience begins from your central Cape Town hotel.

Start at the Great White House, Gansbaai’s shark diving center, where you’ll eat breakfast, and meet your guides for the day. After eating, get fitted into the appropriate diving gear.

Climb into the specialized diving boat, complete with a shark diving cage, for the 20-minute trip into the ocean. Your captain heads for Dyer Island, choosing an ideal place to stop for the dive.

The cage is secured to the side of the boat, and during the cage dives it stays a few feet (meters) below the surface of the water. This means it’s easy for you to get out of the water at any point when you want to.

The boat stays anchored in this diving spot for roughly two hours, depending on shark activity. During that time, there are drinks and snacks for you aboard the boat. After the boat returns to Gansbaai, enjoy light refreshments back at the Great White House. You can choose to buy a professional video of your shark cage diving experience (own expense).

Your experience concludes with a drop-off at your hotel in Cape Town.

  • Please note: Sharks are wild animals and their presence cannot be guaranteed. Every experience that guests have is educational from start to finish. The local supplier works with wild life and nature and sightings are never guaranteed. If a shark has been sighted from the boat, they will consider that a successful trip. If there is no shark activity while on a shark cage diving tour with the supplier, then a voucher will be offered. This voucher is not transferable – your name and passport number will be recorded on the voucher. The transfer fee is non-refundable.
  • This tour typically departs at 9am, however if the weather conditions are bad in the morning, the tour will leave in the afternoon; this will be confirmed by the tour operator close to the day of your tour.
  • You must contact the local service provider to confirm your exact pickup time.
  • Please note that the Conservation Fee is compulsory.

Cancellation Policy

You can cancel up to 24 hours in advance of the experience for a full refund.

  • For a full refund, you must cancel at least 24 hours before the experience’s start time.
  • If you cancel less than 24 hours before the experience’s start time, the amount you paid will not be refunded.
  • Any changes made less than 24 hours before the experience’s start time will not be accepted.
  • Cut-off times are based on the experience’s local time.
  • This experience requires good weather. If it’s canceled due to poor weather, you’ll be offered a different date or a full refund.

This experience is a must for everyone. We had a great day, collection from the hotel in Cape Town and driven to the boat. Just under two hours with a stop for refreshments/toilet along the way. Everything is explained really clearly, the team were super helpful and friendly. Breakfast was provided and soup after we got back. There were plenty of sharks and to see them so close up was amazing! Highly recommend this excursion. Tip - invest in a waterproof case for your phone. We got some amazing videos of the sharks.

Sharktastic experience to be had!

This was an absolutely incredible experience! Getting to be so close to these amazing creatures and learn more about them was so cool. The staff made us feel so comfortable and made sure we were warm after coming out of the chilly water. From the ride out to the dive site, to the hot chocolate and soup afterwards, everything was great. Highly recommend Marine Dynamics to anyone who wants a fun and unique shark experience!

It was great to see the sharks up close in the cage! Great experience! We weren't prepared for how cold the Atlantic sea was going to be so maybe some gloves would have been helpful.

Unfortunately it is a 2.5 hour drive each way from the center of Cape Town. The driver made a stop midway for a bathroom break. This is a huge company and there were almost 30 people on this boat so spent maybe 15 min in the water per full cage of 8-10 people. My friends went with another company and there were 18 people on theirs so they got more water time. The experience was amazing though. The staff were so helpful and nice. There was a continental breakfast there and hot veggie soup when you get back. The water was 55F so many people got out quickly but I didn’t think it was that cold- plus the cold helps with seasickness. Some people in my bus wanted to get back quickly for a game at the stadium and 2 people felt bad from the cold and seasickness so we did not stop at the penguin sanctuary which was included. This is why I gave it 4 star because of the driver accommodating them and didn’t tell the rest of us until we had passed the penguins . I get motion sick and had used scopolamine patch, an herbal patch and Dramamine and still had a few episodes of nausea. A few people took just Dramamine and still got sick (be sure you take the drowsy formula- the non-drowsy doesn’t work).

Was a perfect day on the water, They took care of everything. Not as many sharks get to the middle of the cage. If you are on the ends you get a much better view because of the way they throw the bait.

The staff was very knowable and thorough when explaining everything about this experience. They gave a nice layout for breakfast and hot bread and soup after the cage diving. The water was murky so you only saw the sharks when they were close but it was still a cool experience nevertheless. No great whites. The orcas are eating them all.

Very professional company always ensuring that you are happy and comfortable. I was a bit nervous but they made me feel looked after so I was able to enjoy the experience. We saw 14 sharks up to 3.3 metres long. Sadly no great white sharks on this occasion and they hadn’t been seen for a while. Definitely a big bucket list activity and would recommend it to all ages and fitness levels. Thank you for such a brilliant day, we loved it

Seeing the sharks was definitely the highlight. It was very save too, all on board are very professional. You get a swimsuit, life vest and a waterproof jacket so I was warm all the time.

The sharks right in your face were over the top amazing! The staff are so knowledgeable. I thought the trip was strictly shark diving, but we had a marine biologist on board explaining all of the ecosystems and mating patterns on all species we viewed.

This one one one of the greatest excursions that my wife and I have ever done. From start to finish it was an amazing and thrilling experience. Everyone from the driver to the tour guide to the people running the boat….A+. We have been all over the world and have done excursions in each country but nothing has topped this.

It was a great experience. The boat is a little bumpy for those that get seasickness. But it was great getting and the water and seeing the sharks at such a close distance.

Hotel pick-up was right on time. Beautiful drive across the city. Breakfast was really good. Amazing boat ride, and saw LOTS of SHARKS (biologist counted 13 in total) Incredible experience being in the water with these beautiful fish. This definitely is one of the most fun and amazing adventures I've had in my life. I plan on doing it again.

The driver to the diving was incredible! Really knowledgeable and helpful in the lead up to the big moment. Thought it was a tad unfair that children were given extra time and slots in the cages while making everyone else wait their turn. The bait on the line was pretty much gone after the third cage so maybe have an extra in case to make sure everyone has the same experience. It was very clear less sharks were around at the end which would have been good to know.

Easy pick up and drop off from Capetown. Lots of big sharks, but the great whites were migrating and didn’t see them. Doesn’t matter though the experience was amazing to watch the big sharks eating and swimming within inches of our cage. Bucket list item complete 😀

Amazing time! They provide pick up and drop off service and feed you before you go on the water. The sun was out and the water was calm, the crew is really good, high energy and informative. The Atlantic is murky water so definitely little to know visibility when you go under but the crew does a good job bring the sharks to the cage. We saw plenty of cooper sharks, there was seal kept hiding under the boat and whales were breaching. Would do again when I go back to South Africa. And dont forget to get the video
