The day we were leaving for our trip to Charleston,SC our Magnolia plantation trip was cancelled. Beware that Viator is a 3rd party and if any thing gets overbooked you are the 1st to get cancelled. It did not matter that we made reservations and paid for the tour 3 months before. It left us scrambling at the last minute to find our own way to the plantation and schedule our own tour. My advice is to skip the tour groups and go right to the source to schedule any side trips.
Wonderful place to visit - good historical story!
Deb_H, Apr 2024
It was a beautiful plantation. The gardens were wonderful. Loved the historical stories. The tour guide was very informative but I was disappointed that he only talked on the way to the plantation. One the way back, he put on opera music from Porgy and Bess and had nothing to say, that was weird. The guides at the plantation were awesome.

enjoyed the whole experience! would recommend to others. Guide was good. Wished had more time to do the slavery to freedom tour

The tour guide was so knowledgeable and he took care of making sure we were where we needed to be. Plus not having to worry about transportation to the site was very comforting.
Good but timing is important
Janette_T, Apr 2024
Not a big mansion. Very good tour guides. Flowers will vary depending on season. We scheduled during”prime time” but spring came early this year so a little disappointing. Food on grounds was good and very fast.
House tour is wonderful. Grounds are beautiful.
Karolyn_H, Apr 2024
House tour was wonderful. Took the tram ride, it was not worth the wait. I would recommend walking the grounds instead.
Great way to spend a half day
Michelle_P, Apr 2024
Great tour . Tour guide was great ! Fabulous 1:2 day trip . Beautiful gardens full of history and southern charm
Beautiful gardens.
Dawn_W, Apr 2024
Allan was a wonderful tour guide. We enjoyed the history of the area on our way to the plantation. The grounds themselves were absolutely beautiful.
Beautiful, glosses over some painful truths
Maureen_M, Apr 2024
We were at the meeting spot a good 30 minutes early yet almost missed the bus! The tour is run by a 3rd party. The driver was not holding a sign with the name of the tour, nor was there one on the van. As it got close to departure time, we went to each bus asking if it was ours. The home was a bit underwhelming, though the grounds were beautiful. There was little mention of slavery during the tour, which of course how the plantation was able to exist. There were a few remaining slave quarters, but did not have time to stay for that specific talk. Driver played music from Porgy and Bess on ride back.
Awesome
Thomas_B, Apr 2024
Our tour director was great. He had several stories that were interesting. The plantation was awesome. We enjoyed our experience
Will never visit this place
Ted_d, Apr 2024
We were unable to attend because our daughter had a stroke. I tried to appeal to the HUMAN side of someone at the plantation but my emails were completely IGNORED. I sent 5 emails and no one from the plantation bothered to respond (other then a reference to their cancellation policies). I understand that policies are put into place to protect the plantation, but there are extenuating circumstances (like a STROKE!!) that should swing the protection to the consumer. We were shown no empathy or compassion in our time of dire need. We will NEVER set foot in this place due to their handling of our situation. They have our money and we have nothing but s sour taste and a "voucher" that means NOTHING to us.

Laura_S, Apr 2024
Driver was witty and well-informed, but could have used a more professional way of checking people in. Some almost got left behind by mistake. The docent was very pleasant, knowledgeable, and professional. Took way too long to get anything from the snack bar, when we had limited time on the tour.
Very whitewashed and lacked the full story
Renee_J, Apr 2024
As an African American woman of Caribbean descent, I was disappointed that this tour is not well-balanced where it shares more of the enslaved narrative. This was so white-washed glorifying the beauty of the Big House and not one mention of the slaves who helped to build and maintain the house and the grounds under brutal conditions. The tour guide neglected to even mention there was an option to do the Slavery to Freedom tour on the other side of the plantation!! we had to find out on our own and did a tour of the cabins. All they cared about was the Gardens and the house!! shameful! horrible guides!

The drive with Shawn giving is incredible historical information and Charleston and plantation over view. Great context. Beautiful gardens. Great insight of the family and context of the plantation and very moving tour of the enslaved cabins.
Magnolia tour
Beverly_H, Mar 2024
Everything about our plantation tour was exceptional! From our driver/tour guide to our docent at the house, our trip couldn’t have been better!
Excellent Tour!
Stuart_S, Mar 2024
Tour was well organized and provided a convenient way to tour the Plantation and gardens. Shawn, our tour guide, contact us the night before to confirm and the day of the tour to ensure we arrived on time. During the trip out, Shawn provided a good historical background on the Plantation, the family ownership, and Charleston in general. The tour of Plantation home was informative and Shawn then took us on brief tour of the Gardens, providing more history and answers to our questions. We had time on our own which we used to attend the “From Slavery to Freedom Tour” which was very informative. Overall, the entire tour was excellent!
Magnolia Plantation
Emma_P, Mar 2024
Unfortunately the tour was not well organized. My friend and myself followed all the instructions the tour guides gave us. But we did not have a chance to see the gardens as was said in the itinerary because there was no time left for that. We are very sorry.

MadelineN, Mar 2024
Travel was easy and worth the price since we didn’t have a car. We got some history on the way to the plantation, a full house tour, and guided tour through the gardens. Free time was also offered to explore the gardens yourself or take the tram ride around the property. Very enjoyable experience
Enjoyable
sandra_l, Mar 2024
Had a great guide he was very informative. The only disappointment was you were not allowed to take any pictures inside the plantation house
