We were extremely lucky with our choice of this trip. We were there during the holidays. As a result, my family was the only one signed up. So we had a private tour and it was amazing. The guide had lived in Florence her entire life and had a wealth of knowledge to share. The tour started in the Baptistery. We were told how the building came to be, how the ceremonies were performed and how the baptisms are still held in the building today. The tour then moved to the square and we learned about the history of some of the surrounding buildings and the previous tenants in those buildings. The tour then moved to the museum where we were able to see a lot of original artifacts from the area. Most interesting to us were the original Dome scale models presented over 600 years ago. The tour concluded with a skip-the-queue ticket to climb to the top of the Duomo. Once up to, the views are spectacular. the climb to get to the top is not for the faint of heart. It is a spiral of mostly original steps that are narrow and steep. But for those that choose, the reward is definitely worth it.

Florence is incredibly crowed and this tour was a perfect way to see these historical sites without waiting in queues. The baptistery ceiling of mosaics was very impressive. Cathedral highlight was the crypt with remains of the original small church underneath. The museum was full of statues, artwork and numerous artifacts both original and replicas with the most impressive being the original baptistery gates - must see. Very knowledgeable guide enhanced our experienced.
