This is a fantastic introduction to the local foods. I learned so much about the local fruits, vegetables, spices and recipes at the market. Azul’s ceviche was so incredibly fresh and delicious. You will not leave this tour hungry. So many flavourful tastings. Gisell was the perfect guide. She was knowledgeable and kind. I plan to do this tour with all my guests to Merida.

Great Street Food Experience

Laura was our guide and did a fantastic job of showing us around the central market, stopping and sampling many different items of local cuisine and learning about the ingredients of Yucatan cuisine. The market itself was a wonder, with what seemed like hundreds of small stalls selling ready to eat food like tacos and empanadas along with fruit, vegetables, honey, spices, tortillas, clothes, shoes, kitchen ware and seemingly everything. Laura, was very good to explain everything we tried and how each item was used in the local culture. We then went to a fish restaurant where we shared a huge plate of ceviche with shrimp, octopus and fish. The fish at that place is brought in fresh each day from progresso. Last stop was an gelato place that had gelato and sorbet, but what made it interesting is that many of the flavors were combinations of Yucatan ingredients. I had pineapple and chia which is a green leaf like spinach used in many Yucatan dishes. Very refreshing on a hot day. Thank you Laura for a great time!

Giselle was lovely, inclusive, knew her stuff, and kept things moving. We covered a lot of territory. If you need American level hygiene and atmosphere, don’t go. If you’re an adventuresome eater, you’ll have fun. Wide variety to try…everything from chili honey to hand picked pork. Candy, fruit, and sorbet. Great fun!

The Best Walking Food Tour

Luz was the best guide. We walked thru town to the market as she pointed out points of interest . In the market we sampled tacos, empanadas, & other tasty plates as well discovering new spices & sauces at a specific spice stand. From the candy stand, we chose some local candy. Then we went to a local restaurant to try ceviche & on to desert at an ice cream & sorbet shop. A perfect ending. We also received a summary of the foods with recommendations for spices we could use in Mexican recipes. Luz enjoys sharing what she knows about food in Merida. It was a great tour & she made our day even better!!

Sampling the colours, sounds and tastes of Merida with a super nice guide

We had an excellent afternoon in Merida with Diego. Fruits, tacos, empanadas, spices and sauces and of course some lovely desserts, all in the hustle and bustle of the markets of Merida, surrounded by all the noise and life of the city. So much fun and a really relaxed, enjoyable time.

Out Of My Comfort Zone

The variety of foods tasted. We stopped at spice shop and tasted the pastes that go into various local dishes. Very interesting. I wouldn't have tried most of these foods on my own so it was an adventure.

The food was seriously amazing! Taking the tour was a great call because we got to try all sorts of delicious stuff we wouldn't have found on our own. Diego was awesome—really thoughtful and knew his stuff. It made exploring Merida way more fun. I'd say definitely do the tour early on in your trip for some insider tips!

We absolutely loved the Merida food tour and recommend it as a great way to see the city, learn about the culture, and try some great food and our guide was great. We spent some time in the market which was really cool and informative, and got to see a lot of cool fruits we dont get in the US. The ceviche was my favorite, but tried tons of food. Definitely check it out!
