  • There are 3 emblematic places that this tour considers to enjoy the muralist movement, of which 2 buildings are entered depending on the day of the week. From Tuesday to Friday it includes a visit to the Secretary of Public Education or the Colegio San Ildefonso if you request it at the beginning of the Tour. On weekends we visit the Colegio San Ildefonso and the Palace of Fine Arts.
  • This tour/activity will have a maximum of 25 travelers

Interesting tour of art, history and culture

Balaam showed us murals in a few museums and government buildings. He really dug deep into the history and context, describing what was happening in Mexico at the time each mural was painted, how they were in dialogue with each other, etc. He's knowledgeable and passionate about the subject - if you have any interest in Mexican political mural art, we recommend this tour.

It was an amazing experience, our guide was very knowledgeable on the various artists we viewed. We also saw many architectural eras represented in our fast paced walk. Fantastic murals inside a covered food market, done by two American women artist in the 1930’s. Anybody interested in Diego Rivera and other artist shouldn’t miss this walk

We learned so much about Mexico’s muralists from our guide. He took us to a modest market where there were beautiful murals that the average tourist would never find on his/her own. Two highlights were Diego Rivera’s first mural inside a theatre and all the murals in the Palacio de Belles Artes. Our guide explained the political context and meaning behind the symbols and characters in each mural.

What an amazing tour! Balaam totally exceeded our expectations. He shared valuable historical context of the fascinating art so we really came away with a better understanding of Mexico’s fascinating history. A must-do if you are visiting Mexico City. Hopefully Balaam will be your guide!

Balaam was our tour guide. And despite the fact that we started 45 minutes late, due to unpredictable Mexico City traffic, he did a great job and took us to several mural locations and explained quite a bit about Mexico history and recommendations for later. There’s absolutely no way you will get as much out of seeing the murals without guided explanation of the details and context. When he learned we were students of architecture, he altered his path to walk us past several of Mexico City‘s most recognizable architectural gems as a bonus!

The tour to some of the beautiful murales of Mexico city was excellent! Balaam is a great guide! I happened to be the only participant of the tour that day but he showed endless motivation to introduce me to these wonderful pieces of mexican art. We visited the National Palace and the Palace of Fine Arts and Balaam explained the paintings to me with detailed knowledge of the historic context in which they were created and of the Mexican history in general. Highly recommended!

Balaam was great! He was extremely knowledgeable about Mexico's history. We saw the most significant murals. One of the best parts of this tour is you not only get to see and hear about the amazing murals of Mexico artists, but see and hear about them in historic buildings. We booked the tour for 3 of us - earlier the better. Thank you Balaam for a special experience.
