This tour is tailored for a small group, providing an intimate exploration of a classic Montepulciano wine cellar with a guide.
Meet directly at the cellar on Via Ricci in the center of Montepulciano and prepare for a great introduction to the local wine-growing traditions. Head down into the cellar and walk among the rows of massive Slavonian oak and french wood barrels where Vino Nobile di Montepulciano and other wines age.
After exploring the cellar, which has been dug out of sandy “tufa” rock, and learning about the local wine-making traditions, taste 3–6 local wines, usually Supertuscan, Nobiles, and Nobile Riserva. Pair your wines with Tuscan specialties such as bruschetta with extra virgin olive oil.

This was the best wine tasting and tour that we had while in Tuscany! The wine cellar tour was amazing. Ive never seen anything like it. You walk down several stairs deep into the cellar. The history was fascinating. Ron was our guide and did a great job! After the tour we had a tasting of 3 of their wines and a dessert wine accompanied by wonderful food including cheese, meats, bruschetta and salad. Delicious! Very enjoyable experience. Highly recommend this tour!

Very cool tour! We learned a lot and got to sample six different wines. I wish the wines weren't so expensive to ship :(

The tour was relatively short and the tasting was small pouring. The charcuterie was tasty and the wine was good however there are other wineries in Montepulciano which offer free tour and tastings with similar quality, amount and information. Dia Ricci has an interesting history but the cellar and experience is comparable to the other free experiences here. Moreover you can get on the tour for €25 on the door so no point prepaying (especially as it cost us more than this!!) There was around 28 people in our tour and tasting but this page says small groups. We had a free tour and tasting in Ercolani (their cellar is MASSIVE!) and there was just 4 people total at this experience. Talosa also offered similar experience for free - there are many other signs in town offering same experience I would not recommend or book this as it presents no additional value, if you want to go to Dia Ricci just pay on the door its cheaper.

My visit to the de Ricci wine cellar in Montepulciano was nothing short of amazing. The tour offered a captivating glimpse into the world of local red wines, including the renowned Vino Nobile, Sor’Aldo, and Severo. Each wine presented during the tasting was simply exquisite, offering a true taste of the region's rich heritage and unparalleled craftsmanship. Tour guide/sommelier was friendly, funny and interesting. Followed by a great wine tasting with generous pours and a delicious cheese/meat platter. ( Just no recommended chocolate to go with the 1 wine 😜 ). Definitely do this tour if you visit Montepulciano.

The history, wine, architecture were all spectacular! Never would I ever have imagined! It dates back to 400 BC. Highly recommend!

Our tour guide was knowledgeable, informative and had a sense of humor.
The cellar is impressive and well maintained for visitors. There are several steps to navigate.
We did the 6 wine tastings and they were not stingy with the pour. We were also served a nice selection of cheeses and bread/olive oil and some gluten-free crackers for me.
Considering that they couldn’t take us to the actual vineyard on this particular tour, it was as interesting and enjoyable as expected.
We had several bottles shipped to our home.

The cellar itself was incredible! Federico was an amazing guide who shared his passion for wine and history in a way that made you hang onto every word. Also, I'm not a wine lover, mostly went for others we were traveling with, but I loved every minute of this tour and was surprisingly pleased with the wines. They set up a beautifully, elegant room for the tastings and had amazing cheeses, etc to with everything. One of our very favorite things in Montepulciano.

The history of the wine making in Montepulciano, told by a charismatic host, was quite interesting. While it went into the nuance of grapes and soil to grow them, it also told the story of a people that used wine to outlast there enemies. A fun and unique tale.
