Great tour!
Mandy_G, Mar 2024
This tour was great not a lot of people and the guide knew a lot about the town. I would highly recommend this tour.
Response from Host, Apr 2024
Hi Mandy... Thank you for your review. Yes, as we advertise, we present small group tours and yes, our passionate drivers know much about the City and area they live in. We are all proud of our passionate drivers. Thank you again - John
Fun day! Very organized and small group
leetylou, Mar 2024
Great group of people. Mark, our guide and driver, was very accessible and informative. He also kindly returned a lost phone to our cruise ship. Thanks mate! Could have used more info on the Art Deco portion, but he pointed out quite a bit. Location where we had the wine tasting was beautiful. Lots of info on wine. The last stop for beer/cider tasting was a lot of fun. Big drinks in the 3 pack flights. Try the peach if you like sweet drinks! Food was available- which you need after the wine and beer. Wedges in copious quantities. Nachos with lots of toppings. Lunch fish and chips was plenty for one.
Response from Host, Apr 2024
Hi Leetylou... Thank you for your fantastic review. Yes, Marck is our latest driver to present our tours. I am very pleased that you liked his presentation. He is a retired history teacher, so you would have had everything you required as far as local info was concerned. Our drink stops on your tour are always very well received. Thank you again - John
Hawke’s Bay Scenic Tours a real winner!
Evelyn_M, Mar 2024
Outstanding tour. Kirsty was knowledgeable, enthusiastic and the tour itself was well planned, interesting and enjoyable. Personal attention for a solo traveller was an unexpected bonus. Absolutely worth a 5 star rating and highly recommended.
Response from Host, Apr 2024
Hi Evelyn.. Thank you for your fantastic review. We are well pleased with our tour planning. This is our 20th year of taking our tours and the tours I consider are the best we can present. Thank you again - John
Nice overview of Napier and an excellent winery visit
Lea_C, Mar 2024
We had a lovely day with our tour guide Anil in Napier during our cruise ship port day. Communication was excellent with the guide before our trip and they were very good with understanding the docking times of the ship and insured that we were back well before ships departure. The first part of the tour would be best done walking if at all possible, however, they pick you up in a van that seats about 10 people and you drive through the city. As the windows are fairly small, and a lot of the architecture you are trying to view is skyward, it is very difficult to see some of the things they are pointing out. My suggestion would be, if mobility allows, to have this first part of the tour , about an hour of walking so that you could really enjoy the downtown architecture and get some good photos, then return to the van at the aquarium for the rest of the tour. You then travel out to the oldest winery in New Zealand called the mission winery, which has a fantastic story and even better yet, fantastic wines. There’s a lot of history here and you have time to explore a little bit and get some great pictures before you head on to brewery. At the brewery, you have the ability to select your three choices from a list and bring you those selections. They also have some small food items or lunch for purchase if time allows. we just shared some wedge french fries, seven dollars , and they were very good. There was live music playing our last 30 minutes or so at the facility and this person was very talented! The last part of the trip was driving through a residential neighborhood to point out some of the art deco highlights. This would be difficult to walk, but it was a fairly short period of time in the van. They then took you back to the cruise ship port shuttle stop so you could either walk into town and explore some more or you could head back to the ship. As we were finished Well before the last bus to the ship, we spent a bit of time walking around town and had a nice lunch at A bar and bistro that was across the street from the Esplanade area. We had a lovely day and highly recommend this tour company!
Response from Host, Apr 2024
Hi Lea_C.. Thank you for a fantastic review. On any given ship day, time is really not generally our friend. We present a 4 hour tour and I am so pleased that you enjoyed your tour with us. About walking the city, this is the reason we give you that option at the end of your tour to walk back up the main street to then photograph those lovely buildings that you referred to above. Generally if we have the time, we will offer the walk, regardless you can learn about them as we drive the streets first. I am really pleased you took the option to walk the 2 blocks to your shuttle and enjoyed the feel of the city buildings and the waterfront. Thank you again.. John
A MUST DO

Great day tour!
jowiseman01, Mar 2024
We were so lucky we arrived for the Art Deco Festival! Highly recommend visiting the area when this is on! Our tour guide Kristen (sorry if wrong spelling?) was awesome! Such a beautiful lady, she had a hat and bow tie selection for all of us to wear if we wanted to so we could feel part of the festival!. We were in a 12 seater bus so not a huge group. We went to Mission Vineyards it was a gorgeous old mansion on stunning grounds. The Wine tasting was excellent. We saw the sights and stopped along the way before heading to the beer tasting. Kristens husband who had the other van took photos and gave us some photography tips. We then were dropped back in town where there were brass bands and most of the community dressed in flapper dresses and guys with bowler hats , bow ties etc. Antique cars everywhere and an airshow to finish. What a fabulous day! Thank you !
Response from Host, Mar 2024
Thankyou for your kind words. I will pass this on the Kirsty and Anil. they are an awesome team and extremely passionate about the city and the tours. I agree it is the time to come and visit our beautiful little city who celebrates this event each year on the third weekend of Fbruary .

What a fun afternoon with Kirsty! The views of Napier were fantastic. We had a great wine tasting at New Zealand's oldest winery and a flight of beers and cider at a neighborhood brewery.
Response from Host, Apr 2024
Hi Jennifer .. Thank you for taking the time to write a review. I am so pleased that you enjoyed your time here in Napier. Yes, Kirsty is a lovely guide. We try to get all our tours to visit the Mission, New Zealand's oldest winery. We book this about 6 months before your tour to ensure a booked spot. Thanks again. - John
Lots of fun in an iconic town!
Anne_L, Feb 2024
Anil was a great guide! We not only learned about the city we were in, but we went to the greatest places, we got such a personalized tour, and we had so much fun with our fellow tour mates. It’s so small that you actually feel like you’re getting a VIP tour. Highly recommend! Wish we could’ve spent more time together.
Response from Host, Feb 2024
Hi Anne_L: Thank you for your fantastic review. I am so p[roud of all of our driver/guides. They (we) all have a fantastic amount of passion for our lovely city. The city is an easy sell as it is unique, beautiful and also being the art deco capital of the world. Thank you again - John
Napier Tour
Noca_E, Feb 2024
My husband and I really enjoyed this tour. The guide was wonderful explaining to us about all of the devastation caused by the earthquake and how the city recovered, turning their city into a beautiful art deco area. We loved finishing the day with the wine tasting at Mission Estate Winery. We really appreciated the detailed directions on how to connect with our tour from the cruise ship - they made it very easy.
Response from Host, Feb 2024
Hi Noca_E: Thank you for your fantastic review. I am glad you enjoyed your tour on such a busy weekend with the festival on. It was a challenge for us to navigate the streets to ensure that you got the best from your tour and the happenings around you. Napier is beautiful and interesting, we love showing it off to our visitors. The Mission, yes a fantastic winery, and being the oldest in NZ of course. Thank you for your confirmation that the starting arrangements were easy to follow. Thank you again - John
Poor experience
Patti_P, Feb 2024
We wasted the first hour of the tour trying to find a couple that didn't receive the email that explained a different pick up location. Once we picked up the very nice couple, we spent another hour on a "tiki tour" which is another term for wasting time. It was a wine, beer, and art deco tour. We did drink both on the tour. However, there was an art deco festival in town, so we weren't allowed into certain parts of the city We saw 1 art deco house. The tour Co. knew the festival was happening and should have had a back-up plan. I think at least 50% of the tour was spent wasting our time.
Response from Host, Feb 2024
Hi Patti_P: Lets address your points one at a time: Your tiki tour was driving the highlights of Napier. We advertise the Art Deco and suburbs tour very clearly, I am sorry you considered it not your choice. About 90 others thought it was fantastic. Yes, we knew the festival was on, we arranged to contact everyone to inform them of the change in starting location, being shipside not in a super busy roadside ships shuttle drop off. You are correct with your 50% drive around, being a four-hour tour, 1 hour at a brewery, 1 hour at a winery, and 2 hours driving as much of the highlights and art deco areas as possible. It sounds to me as if you are not interested in art deco. I am pleased that you enjoyed the drinks. - John
Great tour throughly recommend
