What To Expect

Travelers who embark on Gandhi’s Delhi private adventure tour will learn more about the life and times of this legendary man. Begin your trip with a visit to Gandhi Smriti in New Delhi, where this Indian icon spent the final days of his life before being assassinated in January of 1948. Get an up-close look at the well-preserved room Gandhi called home and tour the grounds where he was killed during his routine evening walk, and check out artifacts from his life on display.

Afterward, travel to the Gandhi Memorial Museum—known by locals as the National Gandhi Museum. This historic attraction offers visitors access to a unique collection of books, manuscripts, journals, and photographs owned by and depicting Gandhi.

Continue on to Raj Ghat on the west bank of Yamuna River. See the memorial inscribed with his final words “Hey Ram” and visit the place where he was cremated after his assassination.

Your expert guide will share stories about Mahatma Gandhi and provide an in-depth look at one of the nation’s most famous and beloved men. A maximum of 12 people means this New Delhi half-day tour will be a personalized experience.

End your trip with a bit of exploration on your own or ask your guide to assist with arranging a taxi to take you to your hotel.

I had a great experience on the Gandhi's Delhi Small Group Adventure Tour with Abhi, and I had a great afternoon exploring more of Delhi. Abhi and our driver for the afternoon Sonny, who was very friendly and professional, took me to Raj Ghat, where Gandhi's body was cremated, and I was able to walk around a bit at the memorial. We went to the Gandhi Museum, which had a great collection of some of Gandhi's personal effects. In particular, the dhoti and shawl Gandhi wore when he was assassinated were on display, which was tremendously moving. Abhi then talked with me about Gandhi's final days and death at the Gandhi Smriti, or the Birla House. We went up to the multimedia center, which had some neat little displays, but the highlight was definitely walking behind the building to the garden where Gandhi would meditate and talk with people. The tour was great, and Abhi was knowledgeable, thoughtful, and patient throughout the tour. He is a fantastic guide, and I was fortunate to have two half-day tours with him that day. I'm grateful to have been able to explore parts of Delhi on these great tours.

This tour gives a good overview of the life and times of a controversial 20th century figure. We visited the Raj Ghat where Gandhi's body was cremated, the Gandhi Smriti where he was assassinated, and the Gandhi National Museum which has an extensive collection of artifacts and photos from his earliest years to his death. Our tour guide - Shrishti - was very pleasant, had a good fund of knowledge, and spoke readily understandable English. One negative - the meeting point is a local hotel rather than a pick up at your hotel, necessitating a taxi ride in chaotic Delhi traffic. The driver was kind enough to drop us off at our hotel on the way back, sparing us the expense and hassle of another taxi trip. This tour packs a lot of Gandhi into 4 hours, and will not appeal to everyone. However, If you are interested in the subject, as we were, this tour is a very worthwhile experience

This was the highlight of our trip to India. We did a few tours during our brief five day stay in New Delhi. Visiting Gandhi's memorial sites was a very meaningful moment. Our tour guide was very knowledgeable and he speaks English which was helpful. He was patient and shows us everything we looked for in the visit. This is a tour we would like to do again when in New Delhi.

An excellent experience. The tour guide Audesh C. Mishra was a great guy who went out of his way to make our trip special and memorable, and even longer than the schedule as we were taking our time to see and indulge in the experience. He was very knowledgeable. Highly recommended on every level.

We enjoyed our Gandhi Tour very much! The sites were very interesting and our tour guide, Indira, was very knowledgeable and friendly. We wanted to spend the morning learning as much about Gandhi and his work as possible and we were very pleased with our tour. Highly recommend! Jim G.

If our group could give this a zero we would. The guide, though pleasant, knew nothing more than the briefest amount in a guidebook--really the worst guiding information I have every experienced! Also, the guide's Indian accent was so strong it made understanding very difficult (and my family is Indian, so I am used to hearing accents . . .) Raj Ghat was closed, as the Japanese PM was visiting the next day, but the guide could not offer an alternative site to visit. When we asked to return to a garden we had passed on our way to Raj Ghat, he and the driver got lost, which was hard to believe, and we landed up driving to India Gate for a brief visit. This tour operation does not have their own cars and drivers and hires those. The cars were not clean and drivers were poor (and I say this with knowledge as we had a car and driver for most of our stay in Delhi, who drove the same kind of vehicle, but clean and knew how to get to places. The guide and cars also arrived 30 min late and the first car had problems and they had to bring another for part of our group while we waited along the side of the road. AVOID this tour group and AVOID this tour!! It is a total disaster. There were 8 in our group and we wasted our money.

Turkka L, Jan 2012
Tour started 1,5 hours late and lasted 3 hours (instead of promised approx. 5 hours) and consisted of 3 places of visit: Gandhi museum, Gandhi funeral place, and Gandhi house all of which can be entered free of charge in any case. It was cold on an open tuck-tuck in January morning in Delhi, and very uncomfortable with three people sitting in the back. Vianor promised an "airconditioned" vehicle, it sure was. I tried to cover my ears for not getting cold. The guide took us to these places and we did ourselves all the readings on the posters. Definately, not worth the money. Do it independently .
