What To Expect

Your journey through the ‘spirits’ of New Orleans begins in the French Quarter. In mid‐afternoon, meet at the Lighthouse at the Steamship Natchez dock, dressed in ‘casual’ fine‐drinking attire – some dress codes prohibit tank tops, cut‐offs or super short shorts. With an expert guide and fellow drinks enthusiasts, you’ll spend an enjoyable time visiting historic local haunts.

En route to the first bar, check out the distinctive local architecture. You’ll see French‐ and Spanish‐inspired buildings, gorgeous Creole townhouses and intimate courtyards – some of which offer a great space for imbibing and mingling. At each legendary venue, admire the mixology of notable bartenders and learn the origins and truths of centuries‐old cocktails from your guide. Three famous southern drinks are included in the price.

Your tour includes stops at famous spots like the Court of Two Sisters before returning to the starting point, where your excursion ends. You’ll finish with plenty of time (and insider information) to continue the fun with your own self‐guided drinks and eats tour.

Great
Kristina_M, Apr 2024
Robi was excellent. Tons of knowledge and passion for the city! Great drinks and stories behind the cocktails.
Response from Host, Apr 2024
Great drinks, stories, and a tour guide that loves to entertain.
Highly recommended, ask for Latoya!
Sherilyn_B, Apr 2024
I’ve done several tours in New Orleans and my traveling partner has done many worldwide, and we agreed that this was the BEST tour we’ve ever done. Latoya was an incredible guide, and we had so much fun with our small group. The included drinks were nice, but the recommendations for the additional purchases were spot-on. We loved learning about the history of both New Orleans and the local cocktails!
Response from Host, Apr 2024
Your take away from the tour is exactly why we created it and continue to offer it through Gray Line. Thank you.
Highly recommended cocktail and history tour
christopher_b, Mar 2024
We went to some cool bars (5) some places I’d never been before, and had some spectacular cocktails, met cool people from all over the country and learned a lot about the history of NOLA. Roni was a terrific guide. I highly recommend this tour.

We had a fun group and hanging out at Fritzels was the highlight. Second floor gallery!!! The absynthe tea suggestion was perfect!
Best Guide Ever
Bethany_N, Mar 2024
Bob S. was an abosutely amazing tour guides. I have been on a lot of guided tours in cities all over the US and this one was my favorite. The staff at Arnaulds was very rude to Bob and he handeled it with grace, referenced a historical fact they mentioned later, and didn’t let that sour the guest experience.
Response from Host, Mar 2024
Bob is a man, a guide, of extreme professionalism and loves his city without reservation and forgives those who aren't show their hospitality. We appreciate your well worded review.
Much more than cocktails
Charles_B, Mar 2024
This was not your usual drinking walking tour. We learned quite a bit of New Orleans' history, as well as the origins of some of the most popular cocktails from Robi, our tour guide. His depth of knowledge was amazing! We saw some popular drinking establishments that we probably would've missed if not for this tour. Would definitely recommend!
Response from Host, Mar 2024
Please share your great review with others. Thank you from Gray Line and Robi.
Entertaining and informative

Response from Host, Mar 2024
Early will love to see this review. Thank you for appreciating his storytelling technique as well.
History while you sip and stroll
Jessie_H, Mar 2024
My husband and I had a wonderful time on this tour. Our tour guide, Robert, was so incredibly knowledgeable of all things New Orleans, but specifically the history of cocktails and drinking culture in New Orleans. We walked a fair amount with friendly fellow tourmates and were treated to lovely cocktails at some of the most iconic spots in the French Quarter. For anyone who is actually interested in the history of New Orleans and wants to learn while sipping...this is the tour for you!
Response from Host, Mar 2024
You learn a little, you sip a little, and you have fun with very interesting people.
Cocktail / History tour
MaryFrances_M, Feb 2024
Our guide Robi was so knowledgeable and made the experience so fun. The tour was good, the history was great, and the tour guide was excellent!!!!
Response from Host, Mar 2024
Good - great - Excellent -- this is quite a review and so very much appreciated.
A perfect blend of history and drinking!
Keith_H, Feb 2024
Our guide Tim was awesome! We had so much fun walking the French Quarter with him and making the various stops along the way! We learned a ton about the history of the many bars and drinks. And of course sampling the cocktails just made it more and more fun as we went. Personally, we were fans of the pirate bar. This is a must do on your next trip!
Great tour with nice drinks and some history
Corey_B, Feb 2024
This was a last minute booking for us and turned out to be a great decision. Our guide, Tim, loved the city and knew a lot about it. The drinks along the way were great, the history was good, and the venues were very cool.
Response from Host, Feb 2024
It is different when a local shows you the friendly haunts of the city and their history.
Great tour
Richard_D, Feb 2024
Loved our tour with Robi. He really knew his stuff. Great having the knowledge of a local New Orleanean

Robi has generations of information on the city, and he has just the delivery to bring it all to life.
Great Experience
Peter_K, Jan 2024
Tim had some great stories that were relevant to the places we visited. It was a small group so interaction with the guide was good.
Response from Host, Jan 2024
We prefer the smaller groups so stories can be heard and conversation between guests adds to that as well. Thank you for selecting Gray Line.
Nice cocktails
Ruth_K, Jan 2024
Interesting history of the French Quarter & The cocktails we had. Bob our tour guide was great- informative and ensured our little group was comfortable. The tour started with a refreshing drink that set the mood for a great time and ended with some great jazz!
Response from Host, Jan 2024
An interesting and fun filled evening it seems. Just what we imagined when developing this tour.
Fun tour!
Nell_B, Jan 2024
Tim shared interesting stories and the history of the various cocktails along with great information about New Orleans. Very entertaining!
Response from Host, Jan 2024
Fabulous - just what we wanted our Guide to provide to our guests.
Taken tour twice
Jeff_M, Dec 2023
Have done this tour pre Covid and post covid. Magnificent! Both Tom and Robert are great! Full of knowledge of both the drinks and history. Highly recommend even if you have been to NoLA before!
Response from Host, Jan 2024
Jeff, we are so glad you joined us again for this tour. Each guide adds their own additional twist and knowledge. We are so glad you shared.
Fun historical bar crawl
Danielle, Dec 2023
Sounds silly, but it was our fourth time taking the tour. It’s just the right amount of history, with lots of drinking. So lots of fun! Only complaint is that the sazerac isn’t necessarily a cocktail I’d like to be paying for. In past years, the cocktails were optional, or you could order a different drink from whichever bar. Having the cocktails included sounds great, but having a couple of options would be nice.
Response from Host, Dec 2023
Danielle, thank you for the suggestion. As we try to match the changing preferences of guests we made this recent revision.
Best to drink on your own
Lisa_S, Dec 2023
First, New Orleans does not have a "craft cocktail" scene. Rather, it has several well-known cocktails that are made at every bar, some of which are better than others. This tour offers 3 cocktails, two of which are well-known NOLA cocktails, 1 of which comes right out of left field and has nothing to do with NOLA - and is not a particularly good cocktail, at that. In addition to the three that are included, there is the opportunity to purchase 2 others at optional locations. This is really a history of some of the first players in the cocktail scene who had a hand in developing the well-known NOLA cocktails. Whether all of this history is true or not, I could not say, but the history is overlong and the mediocrity of the cocktails did not make up for it.

Chris_C, Oct 2023
Robert Earley is the best! He was a wonderful guide - super knowledgable and created a great atmosphere for all of us!
