I hit the jackpot with Santiago! I was the only member of the excursion and took full advantage of it. Santiago was open to answer my many questions not only about food but family, culture, politics, schooling, education, and many more. On this excursion I had some familiar foods and were introduced to new ones.
Warning: DO NOT EAT BREAKFAST THE MORNING OF.
Below is a list of stops and foods I tried:
- Jugos de Cana: Coco Helado, Batido Colageno de Coco, Batido Energizante, and Batido de Jackfruit
- Plaza Arenas: Fried pork, potatoes, salad, roasted corn, and plantain
- Store did not have a name: Cheese Empanada with Babaco and Tomatoe Fruit Juices.
- Guambra Bridge: seafood soup with lemon juice squeezed on it.
- Santa Clara Market: Gulupa, Chirimoya, Granadilla, Uvilla, Yellow Dragon Fruit, Mango, and plum
- Broz Tostaduria and Cafeteria - filtered coffee, cappuccino, 65% chocolate, 75% chocolate, and 35% white chocolate.
My favorites were the cheese empanada with a sprinkle of sugar on top and chirimoya!!!
