Iceland: For the Hungry and Curious

A great travel experience and concept. I wish that this tour existed in 1990 when I first traveled to Iceland. We started our tour in a neighborhood food store. We went shopping and I learned all about food in Iceland. Where food here comes from. What is produced locally versus what is imported and how that’s changing. Some interesting historical facts about the local diet and how that has been influenced by the changing Icelandic palate We then moved to a local brewpub, where we sampled several beer choices and selected one to have with our lunch. The lunch consisted of a sampling of all the food from the market. Beautifully presented, and explained, as to combinations with all the different condiments and side dishes. My surprise find? Fish jerky! Undoubtably a wonderful lunch experience, but it was so much more than that. Not only did I learn about food and ‘lunch’ specifically but about Icelandic history, culture, and demographics as well. I didn’t know what to expect from this tour, but it was an especially engaging and wonderful experience for me.
