Excellent day! We had a geologist named France and she was very friendly and had so much knowledge about the volcano rocks. Her passion and knowledge made it a great experience. Thanks again France.
Can’t go near the volcano with orange lava. Disappointed

Not sure why your operator shows pictures of orange lava because that is not where the hike goes. Roads are closed in that area for hiking. My nephews took the hike and did not get close enough to see the orange lava. Big disappointment.

Go for it with a geologist

After a timely pick up in a comfortable 4x4 and hours drive to the lava field, France was outstanding at opening up the history and geology of the landscape with her explanations, context and stories along the route. Fortunate enough to have fantastic weather which gave great visuals all the way there and back. Sensible paced walk but you do have to have reasonable level of fitness and good footwear to cover a little elevation at the start and end, as well as some uneven terrain along the way. Would recommend highly.

Our guide Francie was amazing, pointing out great photo areas off the beaten path and providing clear explanations and details about the volcanic activity in the area and in general. We came away with a thorough understanding of this eruption site and was done safely in comparison to those just going it on their own. Highly recommend using a professional versus just going on your own!!

We were able to see lava bubbling out of the volcano! The views along the way were amazing and the guide had deep knowledge about the geological features we saw.

Even though we got weathered out 3/4 of way to our summit, soaked and wind blown, the day was well worth it. Thanks to our excellent guide France (sp) I have gained a new appreciation for the volcanic process. I dream of being present for a live eruption. Thank you , thank you !!

Having a guide who truly knew the geology to make it an exciting and informative experience. Small group if 8 people made it more enjoyable. Included a vigorous hike in snowy/icy conditions up a steep mountain to overlook valley of lava flows. Bring crampons and/or hiking poles.

Amazing experience! We learned a lot and saw things we would never have seen on a big tour. Our guide was wonderful and clearly loves her subject. I would say that you need to be fairly fit and properly dressed for the weather. Well worth doing and the highlight of our visit
