This was a wonderful experience! The drive was long, but on the way our guide, Josué, shared facts about Central American culture, history, economics, and ecology. Along the way, he chatted and answered any questions we had. The border crossing was smooth. MAKE SURE YOU HAVE THE LITTLE BLUE VISA PAPER FROM THE AIRPORT! When you re-enter El Salvador, the border guard will want to see that again. Antigua Guatemala is lovely and so charming. Our group enjoyed learning and walking around the town.

The trip was fabulous! Alejandro (Josue don't know how to spell it) was the best ever. The guide in Guatemala was excellent. Beautiful country. The drive back was long due to a bad accident but we sang and talked and it went by faster!! Go on this tour if you can! El Fuego even burped smoke on our way out@

I enjoyed this trip a lot! Josue was an awesome guide and was very knowledgable. He was very patient with us and explained everything well. Though the drive was long (~ 4 hrs one way), he showed some interesting sights to see and spoke about them along the way. We didn't feel bored at all. I would strongly recommend this trip to anyone wanting to go on a day trip to Antigua Guatemala.

At 5:00 Josue arrived at our hostel and guided us through the guatemalan border, and then continued to drive us to antigua. we connected with a guide and visited the city for a few hours before returning. Josue was with us every step of the way. It is a lot of driving, though!

A day in Guatemala

This a day long trip, we got picked up early in the morning 5am and arrived in Antigua around 9:30am. Our driver Gaby was great and stayed with us the entire time. She want allowed to give us a tour in Guatemala but when we arrived she had already set us up with the tour guide in Guatemala. Our guide took us to las ruinas de catedral and we walked around antigua as he was telling us the history of the town and certain buildings. We then took a tour of a jade museum and after that we had lunch at an authentic Guatemalan restaurant. We ended the day with a tour to a chocolate store. Take some walking shoes, sunscreen, and a hat. I would also recommend taking a light jacket or sweater since in the morning it can be a bit chilly.

Overall fantastic day trip to Antigua Guatemala! The driver and guide in El Salvador was Josué, who was very knowledgeable and spoke excellent English. Once we got to Antigua we picked up a second tour guide (Manuel) for a few hours because apparently it is Guatemalan law that tours of their country be performed by Guatemalan guides. Manuel was also superb, and seemed to know absolutely everything about Guatemala. After the walking tour we got lunch (at our own expense) at a relatively upscale, but still reasonably priced, restaurant, then headed back to San Salvador. The entire day went perfectly, we got to see and do everything that I hoped for. It also all felt completely safe. It's also worth mentioning that this is not a private tour, I booked the tour alone and ended up having one other person with me. Personally, as a solo traveler, I viewed it as a plus to have another person to talk to during the long drives. In addition to the Guatemala tour, I also used the same agency for my transfer from my hotel back to the airport, during which I got to meet Francis, who was also a perfect driver and great conversationalist.

A safe and enjoyable adventure

I cannot say enough great things about this tour. I would not hesitate to tell anyone and everyone to take it. This is the second tour in two days the wife I and I took with El Salvador Positive Tours. Our guide on this journey was Josué and he was great! We began the day departing our hotel in San Salvador at 6 am. You will need to leave early since it will take roughly 5 and half hours each way to drive to Antigua. I was able to contact the El Salvador Positive Tours before we booked and they agreed to drop us off at a hotel near the Airport in Guatemala City when the tour wrapped up. This worked out well for us but it is still possible to drive back to San Salavador. It will make for a long day so be prepared. Josué was a great driver and conversationalist. He is a lover of his country’s volcanoes and shared some great history about them. He was very engaging and shared great stories as we made the trek to Antigua. Upon arrival we met a local tour guide who showed us around the historical city center. This tour included great history about the old city. We then got lunch and toured a local market. For the last stop Josué took us to the vista that overlooks the city and volcanos for some great pictures. This was a great trip that was safe and affordable for the amount of effort it took for the tour company. I cannot recommend El Salvador Positive Tours enough. They are very communicative and great at customer service.

Wonderful day trip to Antigua

Had a great time on the day trip to Antigua. Francisco was a great tour guide; he was very helpful with border immigration both ways, a great driver, and knowledgeable about the area. My Spanish isn’t the best so he was able to help translate if I needed. In Antigua, we met up with another guide that was local to the area who gave great insight on the history and culture of the city. The drive is about 5 hours one way including time to do immigration at the border. We left at 5am, with a very prompt hotel pickup, and reached back at 7pm. It was a long day but very much worth it if you have time during your trip to El Salvador.
