What To Expect

At the Seward Small Boat Harbor, step aboard a 95-foot-long (29-meter) non-smoking cruise vessel designed with comfort in mind. During your cruise, you'll cover 100 miles (160 km) round-trip. You don't have to worry about food during this trip — enjoy an onboard lunch and delicious dinner at a lodge on Fox Island.

Learn about the evolving geology of the Harding Icefield, which dates back to the ice age and forms the steep fjords. Keep your camera out for the wildlife that you’re likely to see at peak season, which may include minke whales, orcas, and humpbacks, as well as porpoises, sea otters, and harbor seals.

Admire the jagged icy cliffs along the Kenai Peninsula, fjords and calving glaciers — from inside the warm and spacious cabin equipped with seating and large picture windows, or from the multi-level observation decks. Enjoy a fast cruising speed, with extra time to photograph the amazing scenery.

Catch sight of migratory seabirds that nest in the Kenai Fjords, as well as other native flora and fauna. Watch puffins dive underwater and view the rookeries of more than 18 other bird species in the Alaska Maritime National Wildlife Refuge.

Amazing tour and I will fight anyone who disagrees

I cannot recommend this tour enough. Amazing captain/narration very focused on safety and education, great crew, good lunch and drinks available for purchase, and the meal at Fox Island was very good. They are clearly very responsive to the silly minor complaints here as they had many sauces for the lunch wrap (re: prior commenter saying the wraps were dry), a diverse dinner at the Lodge on Fox Island (a full buffet including salad, potato salad, rice pilaf, bread, salmon, steak) and even freshly baked warm chocolate chip cookies on the return journey. The captain’s narration was so good, I felt like I was on a Disney movie tour of Kenai. Drinks (including beer, coffee, mixed liquor drinks) are available for purchase. It was a rainy day at times and my only complaint is that many inconsiderate families took up huge chunks of interior space with no consideration to share. Your ticket buys you one seat inside - act accordingly. I’d encourage the crew to ask passengers to all claim one seat indoors at the start of the cruise to avoid territory battles and kids spread out sleeping over 3-4 chairs by the end of the day - not okay when there is a full vessel full of people who periodically need to come inside from the freezing rain. I would recommend this tour wholeheartedly to anyone visiting Seward!

Wonderful trip with a very knowledgeable captain! Both the lunch and the buffet dinner were very good and the snacks and drinks available for purchase were excellent as well. And of course the scenery was epic. We thoroughly enjoyed the glaciers and the sea life was perfectly stunning. We highly recommend this trip! Part of the day it was overcast and raining and it was then that we saw several dozen orcas, seals, and even a humpback whale. So don’t let the weather stop you!

Wildlife viewing!

We saw many whales, both humpback and Ocra. Also, sea otters, see lions, porpoises and many birds. Glacier viewing was fairly close, a lot closer than the cruise ship last wek.

this was an outstanding trip. we were able to see so much of the land and sea. Fox island dinner was really yummy, though the chicken wrap at lunch was just so so and very dry. highly recommend getting there early to get inside seating. you can always go outside during trip but with the iffy weather get there early to insure inside seats. five star trip for sure, one of our favorite adventures. we saw a bit of everything, whales, orcas, eagles, otters, mountain goats and of course glaciers!

Captain Emma and the crew were absolutely amazing! What a fantastic day full of adventure. Highly recommend this tour. We saw sea otters, sea lions, puffins, humpback whales, orcas, porpoises, and glaciers. Just magical!

Tour tales

We were fortunate enough to have our tour start out overcast and foggy and then the sun came out and we had a beautiful tour. Our Captain was excellent and took us to view a glacier and we were able to see Orca and Humpback whales along with sea lions, eagles, puffins, etc. We were able to witness “bubble netting” with the Humpbacks; a form of feeding. It is well worth your time and money!

The most memorable moment was seeing humpback whales feeding as a pod. There were long stretches ini between wildlife viewing but that is to be expected when dealing with nature.

Captain and crew very helpful in pointing out sea life and land features. The tour boat was first class equipment the large viewing windows afforded nice visibility. Two months in Alaska and this tour is the event I will always remember.

Great cruise and dinner buffet

This was a very well run tour and the folks in charge were very professional. Some folks got a bit sick during the cruise and the people truly care for their well beings offering ginger ale and crackers to ease the symptoms. We did see some wildlife, orcas, otters and some dolphins. The boat did sailed close to one of the glaciers and we witnessed some cool calving actions. I would prefer the boat to sail closer (like the other tour boat), but on well... The final buffet dinner at Fox Island was a real treat. Very good. Highly recommended.

Aialik glacier was magnificent. We also saw a humpback whale and several orcas. The dinner on Fox Island was very good. The crew was friendly and knowledgeable.

Cruising the Fjords

The cruise was amazing. We saw the humpback and killer whale. The glacier was stunning. Lunch was delicious. My only disappointment was our dinner on Fox Island. There was no salads left and the food was very cold. I have done this cruise before and had a delicious meal. The meal is what gave this cruise a 4 instead of a 5.

Stunning! The scenery is so incredible it looks like it is fake. The boat is comfortable and crew is friendly and very engaging. We stopped several times when the Captain spotted whales and other sea life - but if that didn’t happen - it wouldn’t have made the trip any less. Absolutely worth it and would recommend it to anyone. We lucked into a perfect day on the water and clear blue sky.

Puking our guts out

While we were warned that the trip could be cut short, no one even mentioned that the boat would have an even more intense level of sea sickness. Three out of four family members were violently I’ll and vomiting once we hit the very choppy open waters. The staff was great standing by and replacing our emesis bags. There were at least 8 other people also completely miserable and vomiting in the cabin. In the future would also warn people about sea sickness if the weather is bad. We probably would have accepted the refund if we had been warned.
