What To Expect

Meet your driver at your hotel in Tamarindo in the morning and begin your drive to Miravalles Volcano. Groups of four people will receive private tours for a highly personalized experience, while groups of fewer than four people will join another small group for an equally intimate excursion.

Take a stretch break to swim in the pool beneath a waterfall en route to the volcano, before drying off and continuing to the crater of Miravalles, the only walkable crater in Costa Rica. Upon arrival, pamper yourself in nature’s spa with mineral-rich volcanic mud and lounge in geothermal hot springs.

Eat a fresh lunch onsite, and then embark on a moderate hike through a tropical rain forest. Get close to the canopy as you walk across hanging bridges and pass by three waterfalls before returning to your car and transferring back to your hotel.

Amazing Tour!!!

Amazing experience! Our tour guy Rodney did an awesome job giving us the history of Guanacaste. The mud baths were my favorite part. Definitely worth it!

This is a nice little day tour for anyone wanting some adventure but nothing to strenuous. The most recent hurricane caused some significant changes to the first waterfall as per our tour guide. The area used to be great for swimming but now is flooded with murky water - still some beautiful photos. I found the hike to be nice and on the easier side. At some points the hike was a bit steep or hand unsteady ground but otherwise it was trekked out pretty good. One of the suspension bridges was very slippery! I recommend wearing waterproof hiking boots but a couple did the hike in flip flops I wouldn't recommend this, their toes looked pretty bad by the end of it. Also wear layers, it is chillier on the hike but later on at the crater it is really hot! The crater is surfer so be warned that it smells horribly and the smell does not come out of clothing well. We have washed our clothes with scented soap and fabric softener and can still smell the rotten eggs. It also will stain white/light coloured bathing suits/clothing orange. I would recommend wearing old swimwear that you don't mind throwing out afterwards. Taking the mud bath was nice. Only one shower had hot water. The hot springs were very nice and relaxing. The food on the tour is a traditional Costa Rican meal of rice, beans, meat of your choice and a sweet plantain. We also were served a really refreshing fruit juice. The meal was amazing.

Carlos was our guide, and he was fantastic. We saw multiple beautiful waterfalls, hiked on some forest slopes, and walked inside the crater of a dormant volcano, with bubbling hot springs. We had a delicious healthy lunch, and finished off with mudbath and warm spring cleansing. Carlos and driver were excellent. Highly recommend.
