Mauthausen was one of the largest concentration camps in the Nazi-controlled part of Europe during World War II. It was the last camp to be liberated by the Allies, with at least 90,000 people estimated to have been murdered there. The main camp at Mauthausen, located outside the titular town in Austria, has served as a museum since 1975.

Sad yes, educational, very much so, necessary, absolutely yes
A visit to any kind of history related to the Holocaust is never easy. However, I think it is important if you can do it. This trip to Mauthausen touched all of the important points about the camp. The tour guide there told some moving and some interesting stories. He made us think how people could be so inhuman and inhumane to others. I recommend this tour.

Emotional trip.
It was a very emotional tour. We went down to the quarry and viewed the steps after the tour. Our driver and tour guide were very knowledgeable. It was a great experience.

Educational
Although sad, it was great to learn the history! The tour guide on the bus and the tour guide at the camp were both very knowledgeable. Love that they showed a background video on the bus as well

Top-notch guide
The Mauthausen guide was incredibly knowledgeable and well organized. We've all heard stories about such places, but seeing the reality is very sobering -- and inspiring to do everything we can to avoid such horrors in the present and future.
