Sitting on the banks of the Perfume River (Song Huong), Dong Ba Market can be spotted from afar—just look for the 19th-century bell tower. It’s divided into sections, with clothing for purchase on the second floor and street food vendors underneath the stairs. Purveyors set up here before dawn and stay till nightfall, making the market a great stop for any itinerary. You can visit independently, but you may also stop here on a guided tour—there’s even a spot inside the market for tourist buses and vehicles.
If you’re planning to visit on your own, you can get to the market via motorbike or xe om (motorbike driver). The market is also approximately a 13-minute walk from Kinh Thanh Hue, aka the Hue Citadel.
If you’re looking for an exciting experience, head here in the morning—roughly 7am to 9am—to witness the market at its busiest and most vibrant. (The early morning is also a good time to pick up fresh items like produce and flowers.) If you’re looking for dry goods or souvenirs and you want to avoid the crowds, come in the slower afternoon hours, around 3pm.
