Surrounded by towering limestone cliffs and backed by thick forest, the interconnected fairy-tale beaches of Railay (Rai Leh) are accessible only by boat. The four beaches—Tonsai, Phra Nang, East Railay, and West Railay—offer powder-soft white sand, clear calm waters, and a decidedly bohemian vibe perfect for those looking to get away from it all.

What are people saying about Railay Beach

Easy, comfortable, quick
Quick & Easy check in and comfortable seats. We sat at the back and the exhaust was a bit strong as passengers opened the door often . Sit closer to the front if this smell bothers you. We just out a scarf to our face and we’re fine. I would use again. Easy switch to long boat for the shallow waters. Good experience.

Good service
On time pickup from hotel and arrival at pier for speedboat directly to Railay Beach. No issues. Would recommend.

Easy transport
It was an easy way to get from point A to point B. I was picked up in the hotel lobby and then the rest fell into place.

Great guides, poor instructor ratio
Got 3 climbs in for the half day experience. Instructors were amazing. The ratio was bad. 5:1. We had to wait over an hour between some climbs. There was no line so the more aggressive students got more. Ask for the ratio first or find another place that has a lower one. This came out to $15 every time we put the harness on.
People Also Ask
Q:Is Railay Beach worth visiting?
A:The stretches of sand known collectively as Railay Beach are worth visiting to discover a jungle-backed coastline away from the main tourist track. Getting there involves some planning—it’s only accessible by boat—but the sheltered waters and scope for rock climbing and hiking reward those who make the effort.
Q:How long do you need at Railay Beach?
A:There are day trips to Railay Beach from Ao Nang, Phuket, or Krabi, but an overnight trip is ideal if you have time. The vibe is different in the evening after the day-trippers have left, when you can check out Walking Street’s eclectic bars and then catch a sunrise, too.
Q:Is there an entry fee for Railay Beach?
A:There’s no official entry fee for Railay Beach; however, getting there will involve some spending. If you’re not planning to arrive as part of an organized day trip, you’ll need to pay for a round-trip boat ride and then obviously have some money for eating, drinking, and activities once you arrive.
Q:Which part of Railay Beach is best?
A:It depends on what you like. Railay West Beach is arguably best for swimming or snorkeling, with waters sheltered by the rocks; Phra Nang Beach is said to be the most photo-worthy, backed by looming cliffs; and Tonsai is more challenging to reach, but it has remote appeal and a wilder vibe.
Q:Why is Railay Beach so popular?
A:Railay Beach welcomes a range of travelers, from those who want to lay out a towel and bask on a beach to those who want adventure. And while the area is only accessible by boat, visits aren’t so difficult to organize that they’re a hassle. It’s an easy day trip destination.
Q:Is it better to stay at Railay Beach or Ao Nang?
A:If your budget allows it, Railay Beach is the better option, as you’ll have the beaches, hiking trails, and beauty all around you. Ao Nang isn’t far away, though, and it’s a tourist hub with the amenities that come with it: a selection of accommodation, more shops, and ample transport.
