Whether you’re taking a lake cruise, enjoying a bicycle or e-bike tour, practicing your photography skills, gliding over the city in a hot air balloon, or simply exploring by road, Putrajaya’s eclectic but monumental bridges are one of the most magical elements of this elaborate city. At night, the Putrajaya bridges come into their own: The Seri Wawasan Bridge surges skyward in a wave of brilliant colors, while the Seri Saujana Bridge forms an almost perfect oval with its reflection in the lake. It’s possible to stay the night in Putrajaya, but most travelers visit from nearby Kuala Lumpur or the Port Klang cruise port.
Putrajaya is about 20 miles (32 kilometers) south of Kuala Lumpur and the KLIA Transit rail service links it to Kuala Lumpur Sentral station and both of Kuala Lumpur’s international airports in under 20 minutes. Most visitors choose to base out of Kuala Lumpur, which is larger and livelier.
Putrajaya’s monumental architecture is beautiful by day and by night. Hot air balloon rides are only available in daylight, but the bridges show to perfection after dark, when illuminations reflect in the waters of Putrajaya Lake.
Putrajaya is just 45 minutes’ drive from Port Klang, the Kuala Lumpur cruise port, and many tours stop at Putrajaya en route to Kuala Lumpur. Kuala Lumpur is the national capital, a bustling hub that’s home to the iconic Petronas Twin Towers and a vibrant food scene; Putrajaya, built during the 1990s to a grand plan, is known for architecture. Many Port Klang shore excursions also visit the cave temples known as the Batu Caves.
