Amassed by the Hertford-Wallace family throughout the 19th century, the collection was given to the nation by the widow Lady Wallace in 1897 and opened to the public in 1900. The notable works, displayed in a traditional aristocratic townhouse, include French 18th-century painting, furniture, and porcelain, as well as important pieces by Rembrandt, Hals, and Velázquez.

Thank you
A very knowledgeable guide made the tour very informative. I was at the Wallace 5 years ago but this was much better

Wallace collection tour
The ceramic and furniture portions we liked the most as this was very well done. The guide told us the technical aspects of how the pieces were formed. As a person who has casual knowledge of this greatly enhanced our interest in these objects. He gave a history of the collection as well as the house. He selected various pieces in depth. He had us see the arms which was well done even though we did not have much interest. The few paintings showed us the history as well details of the paintings. This was a wonderful experience which we enjoyed immensely and were able to keep our attention. The guide was very knowledgeable and enthusiastic. The only criticism is it would have been nice to have had a short break in the three hours.
