One of Polanco’s many impressive art museums, the Jumex Museum exterior is a common sight on walking tours of the neighborhood and easy to spot from the top deck of a hop-on hop-off bus. Visit independently and wander the exhibits alone or book an English-language tour of the 15,000-square-foot (1,393-square-meter) space in advance. With five floors--including a library, café, gallery space, and terrace--there’s plenty to keep you occupied for a couple of hours.
The Jumex Museum is free to enter on Sundays, although disabled visitors always enter for free and Mexican nationals enter for a reduced fee.
Expect to spend a couple of hours exploring both the permanent and temporary exhibits.
There’s an on-site book store, coffee shop, bike racks, and lockers.
Tripods, selfie sticks, and flash photography are prohibited within the museum.
The Museo Jumex is fully accessible for wheelchair users and visitors with strollers--wheelchairs are available for rent at the front desk.
Situated opposite the Soumaya Museum in the heart of Polanco, the Jumex Museum is easy to reach via both public and private transportation. The closest metro stations are San Joaquín and Polanco (both Line 7), each of which is a roughly 20-minute walk from the museum. There are also several Ecobici stops nearby.
The Museo Jumex is, like many other Mexico City museums, closed on Mondays. However, it’s typically open from the mid-morning until the late afternoon or early evening throughout the rest of the week. Weekends tend to be busier than weekdays, as do new exhibition openings. Sundays are especially busy, as the museum is free to enter for all.
Situated right across the street, the Carlos Slim–owned Soumaya Museum (Museo Soumaya) is another must-visit in the Polanco neighborhood. Instantly recognizable for its shimmering, sinuous architecture, the Soumaya houses a private collection of artwork from both Mexican and European masters. Combine the two on your next visit for an art-filled afternoon.
