Top 15 things to do in ...
One of three postcard-perfect islands between Lombok and Bali, Nusa Lembongan attracts day-trippers wanting to discover coral-crusted underwater statues and neighboring Nusa Penida’s resident manta rays. With its golden sands, laid-back beach clubs, and zen pace of life, there are enough things to do on Nusa Lembongan to merit more than one day there. Besides snorkeling, scuba, and—for experienced surfers—reef breaks, there’s stand-up paddleboarding and kayaking in the mangroves. The Yellow Bridge to Nusa Ceningan is a classic photo stop on any 2-wheel tour.
Like all the best beach destinations, Nusa Lembongan is most fun during Bali’s dry season, which runs from May through October: Avoid the peak of the wet season from mid-December through mid-March, when trash in the water can spoil that dream snorkeling trip. Winds and waves in July and August occasionally see the fast boats from Bali canceled, so leave plenty of lead time before your onward flight.
There’s no public transit on Nusa Lembongan and nor are there Grab or GoJek rideshares. Most travelers get around by walking, hiring bicycles or e-bikes, or renting scooters, though you can also charter cars for groups. Never ride a scooter without a valid license, full insurance, and a robust, fastened helmet; check lights, brakes, tyres, mirrors, helmets, and horns before handing over cash.
For an authentic taste of Nusa Lembongan’s marine bounty, put the beach clubs to one side and head to Nyoman’s Warung, a simple, authentic, local restaurant on Mangrove Beach north of Jungut Batu. Don’t miss the pepes ikan (fish steamed in banana leaf with herbs and spices), ikan bakar (fish grilled over coconut husks), or fish curry—bring friends and an appetite. The only alcohol on offer is local stalwart Bintang beer.

Yes. If you love beaches and marine life, it’s worth visiting Nusa Lembongan. Just 3 square miles (8 square kilometers), this pocket-size enclave offers golden sands, great snorkeling and diving trips, barrels when the surf is big, plus laid-back beach clubs and relaxed nightlife.
...MoreNusa Lembongan is best known for snorkeling and diving—though except for Mangrove Point, most of the most popular sites you’ll visit from here are actually on neighboring Nusa Penida. Laid-back and reasonably easy to explore on foot or by bicycle, it’s also known for a chill beach club scene.
...MoreIf you’re pressed for time and don’t want to discover the nightlife, you can hit the highlights of Nusa Lembongan in one day—although that does mean missing out on the zen evening vibe. 2-3 days give you time to go snorkeling, scuba diving, surfing, kayaking, or stand-up paddleboarding, and chill at a beach club.
...MoreYes, you can go to Nusa Lembongan for a day. Fast boats run between the port at Sanur on Bali’s east coast and Jungut Batu Beach from early in the morning until late afternoon. The journey takes just 40 minutes but can be choppy in the afternoon; boats are occasionally canceled.
...MoreIt depends. Penida is many times the size of Lembongan with much more to do, including better diving and snorkeling, but it’s less developed and you’ll need a driver or a scooter to get around. Pocket-sized Lembongan is more walkable with more accessible beaches, livelier nightlife, and a better choice of accommodation.
...MoreYes, up to a point. Limited traffic makes Nusa Lembongan a pleasant place to go for a walk and a stroll along the beach is always fun. However, to fully explore the island you’ll want to hire a bicycle or—if you have your license and insurance—a scooter.
