Casapueblo is a popular day trip destination from Punta del Este, and many city tours include a visit. Head inside to explore the museum and art gallery, where you can peek into Vilaró’s workshop, learn more about the artist’s work and the building of the Casapueblo, and admire his colorful paintings, sculptures, and murals. The view from the terrace, looking out across the ocean, is a highlight.

Casapueblo is located in Punta Ballena, about nine miles (14.5 kilometers) west of Punta del Este, which is about a 15-minute drive or taxi ride. To reach Casapueblo by public transport, take the bus to Lomo de la Ballena and then walk one mile (1.6 kilometer) along the coastal road.
The Casapueblo museum is open daily from midmorning until sunset. By far the most popular time to visit Casapueblo is at sunset, when crowds gather on the terrace for the Ceremony of the Sun. Minutes before sunset, listen to a recording of the artist's voice reading a Spanish poem to bid the sun farewell. The terrace can get crowded, especially in peak season, so arrive at least an hour before sunset to secure your spot.
Punta del Este is beloved for its beaches and nightlife, but there's plenty to do. Beyond Casapueblo, other landmarks include Mario Irrazábal’sThe Hand sculpture on Brava beach and the wave-like Lionel Viera Bridge (Puente de la Barra Bridge). Afterwards, visit Punta del Este Museum of the Sea (Museo del Mar) and Pablo Atchugarry Foundation (Fundación Pablo Atchugarry) art museum. Take in the views from the La Vista 360 tower and browse the shops along Gorlero Avenue and Artigas Square.
