Casa del Alabado Museum of Pre-Columbian Art is situated just off Plaza San Francisco, in the heart of Quito. The museum is easily reached on foot from many parts of the city, or take one of several bus routes that stop at Vicente Rocafuerte y Cuenca.
The museum is open Tuesday through Sunday from 9am to 5:30pm, except on Wednesday, when it opens at 1:30pm. Last entry is at 5pm. Arrive early for fewer crowds. The museum is closed on Christmas and New Year’s Day.
After marveling over indigenous artifacts at the Casa del Alabado Museum of Pre-Columbian Art, head to the nearby Yumbos Chocolate shop to sample some high-quality Ecuadorian chocolate. Alternatively, check out the Museum of the City or the ornate San Francisco Church and adjoining convent, before wandering through Independence Square.
