The largest game park in Africa, Namib-Naukluft National Park is a favorite for those seeking adventure. Due to its size, the part is divided into four main sections, each with its own entrance gate. From Windhoek, it’s a four-hour drive to the Sesriem gate–you can take the B1 to the town of Rehoboth, turn onto the C24 to Namibgrens, and finally take the C24 to the town of Solitaire. From Swakopmund, it takes 1.5 hours to drive south to Walvis Bay and take the C14 to the Namib-Naukluft gate.
May to October is the cooler season when there’s a welcome respite from the desert heat. Those looking to hike and explore should aim to get to the park early in the morning to avoid the worst of the heat and make it to the tops of the dunes before the sun's peak. The gates open early so you can make the most out of your time.
