Tsukiji Fish Market

4 Chome-16-2 Tsukiji, Chuo, Tokyo, 104-0045

The basics

The market is now comprised of just one area—the public Outer Market, which features shops, sushi, and various market stalls. The Inner Market, where the famous fresh tuna fish auctions were held, relocated to Toyosu Fish Market in 2020.

The Tsukiji Market is often visited with a tour guide on city walking and biking tours. Fish market tours can also be combined with other Japanese cuisine experiences, such as sushi-making classes, cooking classes, and tastings. Nearby attractions seen on sightseeing tours include the Hamarikyu Gardens, the Asakusa district, and the upscale Ginza neighborhood.

So fun! Wonderful to taste street foods!
We were immersed in sights, sounds and tastes of Tokyo with our wonderful tour guide Naoko. We tried food she introduced us too. Sooo fun. This was on Tokyo to-do list!!! The foods on sale were so different from anything we’ve ever seen before! If you’re like us, no knowledge of Japanese cooking, You have to experience this market with a guide!

Things to know before you go

  • The Inner Market at Tsujiki Fish Market relocated to Toyosu in 2020, roughly 1.5 miles (2 kilometers) away from Tsujiki—head there to see the famed tuna auction.

  • The Outer Market, home to vendors and restaurants, still calls the original Tsujiki Fish Market home.

  • Take advantage of the many vendors in the Outer Market who sell some of the best sushi and freshest seafood you’ll ever taste.

  • The Outer Market of the Tsujiki Fish Market is technically wheelchair accessible, but not that easy to navigate due to the large crowds.
