Barcelona City Hall is one of the countless impressive architectural gems in the Gothic Quarter, and its central position means just about every visitor to the city will stroll past it at least once. While the façade is impressive, it’s also worthwhile stepping inside if you’re nearby when it’s open to visitors. The interior walls feature murals by Josep Maria Sert, as well as paintings and sculptures by numerous other notable artists, Gargallo, Llimona, Navarro, Subirachs, Marès, Miró, and Clarà among them. Most city sightseeing tours will pass through the plaza, allowing you to admire the building’s exterior; to see the inside, you’ll likely need to come back on your own.
City Hall is easily reachable on foot from many areas of the old city, thanks to its central location in the Gothic Quarter. To get there by public transportation, take Line 4 of the Barcelona metro to Jaume 1 station and follow Carrer de la Princesa toward Plaça de Sant Jaume.
While the ground floor tourism office is open regularly, City Hall itself is only open to the public on Sundays, and for just a few hours (as well as a few select holidays a year). To fully appreciate the striking interior, be sure to plan according.
