The basics

The Palau is only open to visitors on select days by guided tour. During the tour, visitors can explore select areas on the ground floor, including the Sala Clave, Press Room, and Auditorium, the noble floor (including the Chapel of Sant Jordi, Sacristy, and Salo de Sant Jordi), along with open spaces, including the Tarongers, and the Gothic gallery, courtyard, and staircase. Many city sightseeing tours will pass through the plaza, allowing you to admire the building’s exterior.

How to get there

The Palau is located on the north side of Plaça de Sant Jaume, at the center of the Gothic Quarter. It’s easily accessible by public transportation. By metro, take Line 4 to Jaume I or Line 3 to Liceu. Several buses also stop nearby, including bus lines 45, 59, and 91 and the hop-on hop-off bus.

When to get there

The Palau is open for visits only on the second and fourth weekend of the month, plus open days including the Sant Jordi festival (April 23), National Day of Catalonia (Sept. 11), La Merce Festival (Sept. 24), and Christmas. Guided tours last around an hour. Tours can be booked up to six months in advance.

Carillon of the Palau

Installed in 1976, the carillon has 49 bronze bells covering four chromatic octaves. There are usually daily performances Monday through Friday at midday and 6pm, and sometimes Saturdays at midday, and they can be heard throughout the Gothic Quarter. Concerts are held almost every month, and entrance is free of charge with prior registration.
