The Basics

The Pilsner Urquell Brewery has been in operation since 1842, producing what has become known as the Czech Republic’s favorite beer. The brewery provides multiple tours every day offering behind-the-scenes looks into the local beer production methods, beer making history, and more. They can also sample unfiltered and unpasteurized Pilsner Urquell. The tours stop by the brewhouse, the brewery cellars, and the bottling facilities.

  • Portions of the tour visiting the bottling facility are in Czech, but travelers who speak English, Russian, or German can download an app allowing them to access the tour in these languages.
  • Tours run for 110 minutes.
  • The brewery is chilled inside–dress warmly in all seasons.
  • Visitors under 18 must be fully-supervised by a parent and cannot drink the beer.

How to Get There

Pilsen is 58 miles (93 kilometers) southwest of Prague. Self-driving is the fastest way to get there, with the journey from Prague taking just over an hour along highway E50. Trains from Prague Main Station to Pilsen depart regularly and take about 1.5 hours, while buses are a little faster.

When to Get There

Tours operate daily throughout the year, but the brewery is open for extended hours during the high season between May and September. Tours run multiple times daily from the late mornings, with more available on the weekends. Pilsner Fest Pilsen, which celebrates the amber drink, is usually in early October.
