Whether you’re on a self-guided driving tour or a guided sightseeing tour, you’ll likely stop at Kaumahina Wayside Park on the Road to Hana. The picnic tables offer an ideal spot to enjoy a picnic lunch. If you want to spend more time there, there are several hiking trails, which let you get a closer look at native plants such as African Tulip trees and Paperbark. There are also sweeping views of the Pacific Ocean and the Ke’anae Peninsula.

Alcohol and smoking are not permitted at the park.
Although flush toilets are available, toilet paper isn’t always on-hand, so it’s best to bring your own.
There are picnic benches in the park where you can eat lunch.
Kaumahina State Wayside Park is located on the north shore of Maui, just past Mile Marker 12 on the Hana Highway (Road to Hana). From Kahului, take Highway 36 until it turns into Highway 360 (Hana Highway). Many guided sightseeing tours also stop at the park on the way to Hana.
The park is open during daylight hours. Most visitors stop here quickly to use the restrooms and to stretch their legs, so it’s typically busiest around midday. Allow more time if you plan to enjoy a picnic lunch or hike any of the loop trails around the park.
Further along on the Road to Hana, around Mile Marker 17, is the village of Ke’anae. The traditional village is known for its taro fields, and also for the Ke’anae Congregational Church, a stone church built in 1856, and one of the oldest on the island. A popular stop is Aunty Sandy’s, known for their banana bread and smoothies.
