From designer emporiums and quirky boutiques to vintage stores and bustling flea markets, shopping in Reykjavik is far from run-of-the-mill. Whether you want to find a unique piece of local design or buy a wool sweater as a souvenir, here’s a rundown of the best places to shop in Iceland’s capital.
The thoroughfare that runs through downtown Reykjavik is the city’s main shopping street. In amongst multiple souvenir shops, you’ll find the vintage clothing store Spuutnik, homeware design store Hrím, and Aftur clothing boutique.
Close to the Old Harbor, Kolaportid is a large indoor flea market where dozens of stalls sell vintage clothing, second-hand books, antiques, and more. You can also buy Icelandic delicacies that range from dried fish and fermented shark to liquorice and kleinur pastries. This is a popular spot for locals and makes for some great people-watching, too.
If it’s familiar brand names you’re looking for, your best bet is Kringlan, Reykjavik’s largest shopping mall. The mall is filled with branches of Icelandic brands such as 66 North and Zo-On outdoor outfitters but also has outposts of H&M, Skechers, and Levi’s. You’ll also find plenty of dining options.
